How To Upgrade Amcrest / Lorex to Dahua Firmware And Get All Dahua Features

Just thought that I'd chime in and mention that I decided to do some work on automatically pulling down many firmwares across multiple OEMs, and built a site that can help with finding other potentially compatible firmwares for devices. It can be found at:
On behalf of The Internet I'd like to apologize in advance for the n00bs who will no doubt be blaming you for bricking their cameras.

And a sincere Thank You for the rest of us who understand that you're just trying to help.

Here's an example of a camera with a few different firmwares that should be compatible: Here's an example of a firmware that internally lists multiple cameras as supported:
As a further note,many firmwares on the site don't show any compatible devices. This is due to how I'm programmatically determining the devices supported. I check the check.img first, then check if Install.lua contains any board.name or `vendor.Name`s, then fall back to checking the u-boot.bin.img header information (although this usually is the SoC that U-boot is targeting, this can sometimes be a model number). I'd love to hear from anyone who knows any other ways of determining compatibility.

Thank you, this is helpful

Has anyone managed to flash an IP8M device with Dahua firmware? I noticed some mentions that something was changed and Amcrest base firmware won't let you cross update anymore? I have some cameras with circa 2020 firmware and none of the Dahua packages that should work, are working.

Model: IP8M-T2599E
processor=SSC328Q
updateSerial=IPC-HDW2831TP-AS-S2
updateSerialCloudUpgrade=IPC-HDW2831TP-AS-S2:01:02:05:9E:3D:00:01:10:01:00:04:400:00:00:00:00:00:01:00:00:100

I tried every version of DH_IPC-HX25 I could find and none of them work, even though the 2831 device is listed in their check.img files (inside the .bin file).

I really just want a firmware version that will work with SMB and not require NFS.

not sure if you already got it working but my research suggest this camera should be able to be upgraded to the dahua firmware. several people have successfully done this. However there is no promise that this will work for you. do this upgrade at your own risk. this may brick your camera.
1. factory reset your camera (can do this via webgui). afterwards do not log into your web login as this changes your password. go to step 2
2. open the dahua configtool and search for your camera. find the configtool by using google.
3. downgrade old firmware circa 2019. last one i could find 191113 -> Amcrest_IPC-HX25(8)XX-Mole_Eng_N_AMCREST_V2.800.00AC000.0.R.191113.bin. I believe 2020 on the firmware was coded to block any upgrade to the dahua firmware
4. find your firmware on empiretech firmware page. "IPC-T2831TM-AS" i believe this is your model -> Download Firmwares
5. log onto the camera using the configtool again and upgrade your firmware to the one on empiretech firmware page.
6. log into your webgui and it should be dahua now.
7. upgrade via dahua webgui to the current version on dahua's website -> Index of /Firmwares/IPC_Cameras/IPC-HX25(8)XX-Molec

I hope this helps you and others on their IPcam journey.
voila
