Hello
It's been a while since I played with my cameras and came on this forum but I had a couple of the Hikvisions fail and need to upgrade a little. I noticed the new generation of IPcams are 8 MP is this essential ? as I think mine are mostly 3MP. Since browser support ended I've been using the IVMS but it seems a bit clunky and overcomplex does anyone use this system for viewing and settings ?

Thanks
Jim

For settings and configuration, the Batch Configuration Tool works pretty well : DOWNLOAD PORTAL

Unusual if it's a hardware failure. Fixable if it's firmware. Do you still have them? Where are you located?

I'll checkout that download
Not sure what happened to the cameras they just seemed to stop working without any unusual things like power cut etc.
I plugged them both in to another working camera cable/POE as a quick check but still didn't work.
They did both fail while connected to the same Linksys router which is working fine with a Tenvis camera
I still have them I'll get the PN's later I'm in the UK
Thanks

very likely user error, either installation or general setup. "didnt work" is very vague.
Also there are many browsers that still work with plugins, see threads discussing palemoon.

Batch config works good once I figured it out and I managed to get one of these cameras working fine.
It's a DS-2CD2432F-IW. The other one is a DS-2CD2032-I and I can see it on the network but the IP has changed to 192.0.0.64 and the IPv4 gateway has changed to 0.0.0.0 which is not what I set it to.
I think from memory I have to connect it direct o my PC to reconfigure as I can't seem to access it with those numbers in there

Just installed Pale Moon and it works a treat ! It's been 3 or 4 years since I messed with my network and new stuff becomes available.
Thanks for getting me back up to speed

No, you never need to do that. In fact, best not to, just have it on the network as normal.
but the IP has changed to 192.0.0.64 and the IPv4 gateway has changed to 0.0.0.0 which is not what I set it to.
Use SADP or the Batch Config Tool to set the IP address back to what you need, then you will be able to access as normal. Very likely the admin password is default 12345 again.

I'd say the cameras have probably been hacked due to vulnerable firmware and either inadvertent or intended port forwarding, UpNP enabled on both router and cameras.

So no hardware failures after all?

I managed to reconfigure the camera and got it working so yes no hardware failures. I need to look into the security and the port forwarding issues. No doubt there will be a thread on here discussing the matter. Thanks for the help.
I read an article about the US government banning Hikvision as the company is owned by the Chinese government and there is a backdoor in the software ?

Hi Jim,

Probably a nice backdoor either intentional or unintentional but known by state cyber exploit teams.

Hard to be fully protected against state level attackers.

I just checked the firmware on my cameras and they are all 5.2.0 Is there extra functionality or improvement worth upgrading for as I'm not really bothered if the chinese hack the cameras. I've recently been using the cameras to find out where the mice are getting in the house so not really sensitive footage

Hi Jim W,

A Hacked / Hijcaked camera is more that someone just viewing your video feed.

It can be used to attack banks, government computers, bitcoin mining, bitcoin theft, leveraged to attack your computers, spread virii, share kiddie porn,... and lots of very bad things - AND it is possible that as the owner you can be implicated as participating in any of the above.

Thus do take some precautions and try to reduce the chances of it happening to you.

I turned off all port forwarding and I'll look further into the security issues

Id also recommend clearling all dns servers in the network settings. This fully prevents it from reaching the outside internet (unless hikvision has backup dns servers in code)

So I bought a used ASUS router and set it up and apart from the ability to have openVPN it's no better than the Linksys 320N. Wireless signal seems slightly better but keeps dropping out and I can't get the USB drive to set up with the camera NAS. Linksys sets up easy and allows you to partition the disc. Used 320N can be had for less than £10
