Need Help - Stuck at Step One

I need help connecting my IP cameras to my network.

After studying up here, I ordered 2 Dahua cameras from Andy: IPC-HFW1435S-W. Despite hours of troubleshooting, I can’t seem to get them to come online. I’m at the end of my rope.
I’m on a Mac. I’ve installed SmartPSS and the Config Tool. On my iPad, I’ve tried IMOU and EasyViewer. I’ve tried accessing the Web UI for the cameras using both Safari and Chrome. Consistently, I see these symptoms:
  • When plugged into ethernet, the camera grabs an IP from the DHCP server, and I can see the IP address for the camera in SmartPSS and I can ping the camera. However, the camera shows as Offline. I cannot “do” anything to it in SmartPSS.
  • While on ethernet, I can resolve the URL for the IP address in a browser, but get a 404 error (this tells me the internal Web server is up, but not working properly).
  • Over WiFi, I cannot see the IP on my network, find it in SmartPSS, or access the Web UI.
  • When I try to configure using either IMOU or EasyViewer, whether over WiFi or ethernet, the attempt always times out.
  • I also bypassed the network and connected my computer directly to the camera with an ethernet cable and had the same outcomes in SmartPSS.
I have tried resetting the cameras, several times.
I’m out of ideas. Does anyone have any suggestions?

the camera must be on the same subnet as your network. There are a bunch of threads explaining how to do this.

By default the cameras DO NOT 'grab an ip from the dhcp server". I think you're trying to connect to something else on your network.

Welcome @WA004

Remember to check the cliff notes as they may contain some useful guidance to assist you.

On your router, do you see the camera's MAC address assigned an DHCP IP address?

Step one - Only add only camera at a time. They all come with the same, default, IP address. Plugging them both in at the same time creates and instant conflict. I believe the default is 10.160.1.108, but I seem to have a mental block for that IP for some reason and could be wrong. I'd also say to configure it while it is hard wired to your network rather than try on WiFI.

tangent and mat200...y'all may be on to something.

I am definitely seeing a device show up on my network when I plug the camera in via ethernet. A network tool (Fing) identifies it as an IP camera, as well (by MAC address, I'd guess). Also, I can ping the IP when the camera is plugged in, but not when the camera is unplugged.

However, the MAC address on the side of the camera is _not_ what's showing up on my network. I figured that the MAC address was for the WiFi, and that the ethernet used a different one. Do Dahua cameras use the same MAC address for both interfaces?

Yes, I'm making sure to try only one at a time. My home network is 10.0.0.*. From what I've read, the Dahuas come with a default of 192.168.1.108. I've tried setting up a closed 192.168.* network, as well, and that didn't produce any different results.

Hi @WA004

Each different network hardware should have their own MAC address - the WiFi chip and Ethernet chip should have different MAC addresses.

Try using ethernet first - to reduce any chances of WIFi configuration complications. Once you have it working with the cable - then try the more complex WiFi connectivity.

For what it's worth I had ONE camera I got new I had to find the button to factory reset, maybe you are in the same situation. Before I did that I couldn't get connected, even using a direct network cable and fixing the PC address at 192.168.1.1 (I believe the Dahua's I was programming were all showing as 192.168.1.108 's except this one problem child).

OK, so they switched for the consumer grade cameras.

The Dahua Consumer Product line is a hot mess. It is now labeled as LeChange.
Try this:
1-Turn off your phone you have the IMOU app installed on.
2-press and hold the default button for 30 seconds on the cam while it is powered on.
3-Wait three minutes after release of button.
4-change the IP address of your computer to the 192.168.1.1 range temporarily.
5-Plug that computer and the camera into the same switch using Ethernet cables.
6-Using Internet Explorer (not edge), go to the ip address 192.168.1.108
If successful, you will get a prompt to change to a secure password.
DO NOT scan any QR codes.
Google can tell you how to change the IP on your computer.

I guess I'm confused then. Seems to come with age. I could have sworn it was on the 10.160 .x.x ranges. Oh well, at least I got the 1.108 right.

Just set up two dahua today. 192.168.1.108

Go ahead, rub it in, SY

Do one camera at a time: you can't have two (2) cameras at the same 192.168.1.108 IP address on the same network at the same time or else you'll have an IP address conflict. Understand what a subnet is and configure your PC with a 192.168.1.x (not .108 though) IP address. Sorry...didn't read all of the posts to this topic. smiley13.gif

Thanks for the detailed breakdown. I've done a procedure that does _most_ of this -- I last plugged the camera's ethernet directly into the computer. I'll try again with a switch in between.

Question: You specifically mention IE. I'm on a Mac/OSX. Is there a browser on Mac that should work, or do I need to find a Windows machine to make this work?

I seem to be having a very different Dahua experience than the rest of you. I've changed over my entire network to be on the 192.168.1.* range. I reset my cameras. They still do not show up as 192.168.1.108, but individually show up as 192.168.1.159 and 192.168.1.160. These IPs show up on the network when the cameras are plugged in, and disappear when the cameras are unplugged. Hitting the IPs with a browser still gives a 404 error (.108 does not resolve).

I installed VirtualBox on my Mac and ran Windows in a VM, so I could test with IE. That also wound up in a 404, on both cameras.

I'm stumped.
