Hey guys,

Looking for recommendations.
My mother has moved into a new place, and she wants to get a CCTV system.
Ideally she wants something that is plug n play, so an NVR solution would be nice.

As far as the cams go, she wants a couple that are wide angle with a built in floodlight, and a few which have a narrower field of view (around 90 degrees).
4K preferably. She also wants a doorbell cam, however this doesn't need to be 4K, so long as it's got two way audio and great night performance. All cams need to have vehicle and person detection (number plate detection not necessary). It would be a bonus if they also had pet detection (cat, dog), although not sure if this is something that the NVR could possibly handle if the cameras themselves cannot?

NVR needs to have all the standard functions, such as remote management, app support and notifications for alerts, as well as upgradable storage. Google Home integration would be a bonus.

The biggest uncertainty for me is the doorbell cam. I don't have any experience with these outside of the big box brands which require a subscription, and she wants to stay away from those.
As she's getting an NVR, would the doorbell cam need to be the same brand in order to work with it (including the AI features)?

What models of cams/NVRs/doorbells would you recommend? Links to products/stores would be appreciated!

His doorbell says SOLD OUT right now, but the Amcrest AD110 is a Dahua product, roughly the same animal ( don't quote me)
My Amcrest door bell works with my Amcrest 4116 NVR.
doorbell upper left.
There is an App for that as well. Not sure if Amcrest is available where you are
thats why i though Empiretech would be a good system to put together but you'd need to ask Andy about Doorbell compatibility/ availability.

Or see what systems Lorex offers in a package with a doorbell.... If you need plug and play

Good to know. Didn't know Amcrest is rebadged Dahua.

Does the doorbell have any AI features built in? Or does the NVR handle that?
Any Google Home integration?

I can't answer any of that. AI probably NVR.
he has a doorbell in stock over on Amazon. Some things that Dahua makes can be crossovered to use on Amcrest ViewPro app/ (Rebadged DMSS)

The SMD is a smart function by camera, and latest new AI NVR all support that SMD function. And AI NVR can make the face detection cams with face recognition.

Recommend getting a NVR rated for 16 channels if you think you need 8 channels..

Why's that?

"Need NVR + 7x IP cams + 1x doorbell cam. What would you do?"

In general, NVRs are sold based on number of channels and PoE ports, as well as resolution and bandwidth supported. It does get more nuanced with tech tier / features supported also ..

Often NVRs come in 4 port / channel ; 8 port / channel ; 16 port / channel .. and larger

Many people start with a 8 port / channel NVR and then ended up wanting just one more camera beyond 8 and .. bam, they have to now get a new NVR.

Also, there is compute power ( CPU, networking, encode and decode ) considerations, and getting an NVR with a bit more than what you think you need today, is a good option for typically only a bit more $.

As a general rule, I recommend getting one level higher in terms of channels / ports supported.

Thus, if you think a 8 port / channel NVR is good, get a 16 port / channel one.

@bigredfish ...I believe when these NVR's get about 70-80% to capacity with camera's there comes a point of bandwidth use that or computing power, where by the NVr decides for you what the max resolution and max FPS when it gets too taxed. and Live view may also be limited to less than 4 cams. People have run into this. SO if you go 16 @Corvus85 you wont get chumped on features being " auto-disabled" by the algorithms built into the NVR.

When I maxed out my 8 Channel it became sluggish. and the web page to login was slow to load and sometimes just didn't finish loading. and trying to view individual cam web pages was a waiting game.

Different models seem to react differently. But yes, whether its BI or an NVR, once you get close to the max bandwidth the machine can handle, bad stuff can happen. Typically a PoE NVR will drop the last camera connected. Before that it may become sluggish. Again same with any PC running BI. Once you push incoming bandwidth and encoding capacity of the machine, it will struggle.

Interesting.
Well, if the doorbell cam is high enough resolution and good enough low light performance, she won't need to get an additional camera above her front door. This means that including the doorbell cam, she'll only have 5 cameras. Will the 8ch NVR still be enough to support all the needed functions/bandwidth?

Also, what is the easiest out-of-the-box solution to having a display mounted on a wall where she is able to answer calls from the doorbell and see her cameras at a glance?

Hey guys,

So she wants a 4K camera with built in white LED, but she wants the light to only turn on when it detects a person or vehicle.
Is there such a cam? I'm leaning towards this one, but I think the light is always on, and I can't see the option to have it only turn on when it detects something.

@EMPIRETECANDY
The only one, not4K, that I know of is the Color4M camera. The camera is going to have to see the person in order to know to turn the light on. Therefore, it will have to use IR to see at night then can turn on the white light.

Yeah I saw that one, but I need it to be 4K (need to preserve detail while maintaining FOV). There isn't one in any other competing brand which maintains compatibility with Dahua NVRs? (especially the AI features)?

Have you spent some time reading MP to sensor size importance on here? With a camera that has the right MP to sensor size and that is setup properly, you will never know if it’s 4 or 8 mp. I’m sure if you wait until @wittaj wakes up in the morning, he can supply you with all the information you need on this.

Yes of course, however a 4K 1/8 sensor is better at resolving details further away than a 4MP 1/8 sensor unless I'm mistaken.
