so ... assign static ip to this camera. Then connect to the switch and the switch to the router. Does the switch need to be connected to the PC?

Best practice is to have the cameras and PC connected to one switch to avoid having the cameras have to "go thru" the router to get from the cameras to the PC with BI on it.

YES!!! Got two working cameras. So just had to change to static kept the same IP as was assigned. Now I know I can connect them all up. I need to get a PC that will be up to spec and I can add a lot of HDD to keep storage longer than the current 4 days.

I have 16 cams and wanted to add a further 8. Using AI and that.

I found a pc I had around Intel R Xeon R CPU W3680 3.33Ghz
Ram 24 GB
64 bit
Windows 10
Pro N 22Hz

Is this gonna be a good start.

I didn't want to create a new post so I'll use this one. I have the EmpireTech NVR and S3 cams, and it keeps asking me to install their plugins. Are they safe to install? Looks like I should only use legacy Internet Explorer?

Here is a VirusTotal scan:

This has nothing to do with this post, but OK LOL.

If you want full functionality of the NVR then you need to install them LOL.

And yes Explorer is your best bet.

Keep in mind that many of these virus scans simply work off of algorithms of number of their customers that have used the file/program, so if it is coming up in some of them, that is probably why.

I used this post because there was talk about using the web plugins. I didn't think my question merited a whole new thread.

Anywho, thanks for the response.

Thank you. I really appreciate all the advice.

Having said this, I suggest dispensing with the patronizing responses to newer people like me who don’t know this stuff. I did search for threads and found this one. I obviously didn’t use the right search terms or didn’t know where to look exactly. That doesn’t mean I didn’t try.

This isn’t just aimed at you but any of the experienced contributors. You’ve been truly responsive and amazingly helpful, so please take this as constructive feedback and not inflammatory. This forum has been otherwise fantastic.

Hijacker!

Looking at this Intel Core i7 14700K 14th Generation 20 Core Processor - would be a good one for AI
10TB WD Purple would hold around 25 days.
Windows 11

Then
-PSU 850W?
-Motherboard
-Cooling
-Case

That is way overkill for BI, but if you can get a good deal on it, you will be set for a long time!

I've done it!

I have 16 cameras all static ip all up and running on its own computer build.

However, the cameras are quite delayed.. substream springs to mind?

Also connecting on a web browser within the LAN - doesn't work. No password or login details appears. I have 4 adpators on the web server though ....
