I'm not asking questions but answering. So I think I'm keeping with my promise. Reason for dedicated POE switch vs incorporated: if I didn't have a separate POE switch I will need runs from each camera to NVR. If I had a separate switch, all camera runs go to switch and 1 CAT to NVR.

That is incorrect..most models are available both ways.

I'm looking up VMS. Apparently it's geared toward the medium to large installs. I'm on the small scale side.

That is not accurate...vms is a general term...lots of software out there geared for small installations...like blue iris, sighthound (which you chose originally) milestone xprotect(free up to 8 cams)
