Please Help: Upgrading chinese DS-7608N-E2 NVR Firmware

I have an old Chinese DS-7608N-E2/8P with hacked to English firmware (v3.0.5 Build 140508). I would like to upgrade the firmware so I can use newer h265 cameras.

I understand the following from reading this forum (please correct me if I have this wrong):
  • The latest version I can upgrade to is V3.4.96 build170921 to retain the English menus/persona
  • I must update using the NVR's web server/portal.
  • I must update in stages
    • May be (1) 3.0.10 (2) 3.3.2, (3) 3.4.0 (4) 3.4.62 (5) 3.4.90 (6) 3.4.96
  • I can use English or ML firmware (Downloaded from the Hikvision Europe Portal) which I must change the language flag using hiktooks05R1.exe.
Please advise if my understanding is correct!

If you update this with any of the EN/ML stock firmware, you are most likely to get the '15 beep bootloop' with internal complaints about '!!! You device is illegal !!! !!! You bought device in China !!! (sic).

That does not change the language of the firmware itself - only the language flag of the firmware header / wrapper.

Thanks for your quick response.

Do I then need to use Chinese versions of the firmware?? If so, where can I download these please? Also - Which is the latest version I can upgrade to?

The European firmware version 3.4.0 introduced h265 support according to the release notes.

Thanks for the link - I already came across it but the version available for download (V3.4.98 build171121) is too much of a jump for me to upgrade to in one step from v3.0.5. Do you know where I can get earlier versions??

Were you able to successfully update the firmware ? what process did you follow? I am also looking to update the firmware so that it supports the h265 cameras.
