Burlington, Vt., decided to slash 30 percent of its police force by attrition. Since then, city leaders have been reckoning with the unintended consequences.
That's too bad, but the only people I actually feel bad for are the few that live there that are NOT in the so-called "Progressive" party.....which, IMO, should appear in dictionary examples of "irony".
They are getting what they deserve. You made that bed, now lay in it.
I just don't buy, "unintended consequences " or "who knew this would happen". That would make these people one of two things, either stupid or evil. You pretty much know which I think they are, i.e. they sold out...

I worked Oil Exploration in Venezuela back in 1994. They had just reopened their oil & gas to foreign investment after it had been taken from foreign partners decades ago. They were awash in cash due to offering large leases for bid. Once on the ground it was clear that the national companies did no maintenance and it was up to us to fix things. I then worked elsewhere in the world. In 2004 I was invited to shoot in the 2nd Venezuela IDPA Nationals and went there for that competition. Private gun ownership was still allowed. It was the only time I brought my firearm to a foreign country. I worked in Nigeria 2006-2012 in Oil Exploration and we had several Venezuelans working there. They could not get work back home and they had issues with getting their pay checks deposited back home. Every one of my friends did not want to go back there. It is such a shame how that country was destroyed.
I heard on the news this evening that Comrade DeBlasio will be signing a bill forcing natural gas to no longer be used for heating in NYC. That means electric heat, probably eliminates oil as well including #6 for really large users, and forcing everyone onto electric for cooking. Just where will that electricity comes from? The NYC grid is just about at max capacity already not to mention where will the generation capacity come from? Bet the generation will be gas fired. What a winner this plan is!
They're setting themselves for a huge disaster when the grid goes down. Nuke the backup system in the name of feel-good politics. It kind of rings like having a nurse shortage after firing a bunch of nurses.
In our subdivision, we have mostly gas appliances: heat, water heater and stove top.
When the developer had his plans approved by the city, part of that approval process included the gauge of wire that carries electricity from outside the subdivision to individual homes. The developer, of course, submitted for approval and installed the largest gauge, meaning cheapest, wire.
If everyone in our subdivision had an electric vehicle, or two, and had charging stations installed which are 50 amps each, the electric capacity of our subdivision would collapse or worse, catch fire.
New York City has a similar situation. Where do these idiots think the extra, required, capacity will come from and who will pay to dig up existing power lines and replace them with heavier wire? Oh yeah, my bad, residents will.
They don't think. They fantasize what they feel should be, make it happen by force, and damn the consequences. I've thought for years that these liberals/democrats have the mentality of a toddler and nothing has changed my mind yet.
