I can easily believe that an EV causes less emissions to be released for the same travel, compared to an ICE. The big generators, no matter what the are fueled by, are way more efficient and release fewer pollutants than a car-sized ICE for the same power output (IMO of course). Fuel cost wise, an EV is cheaper to run now. How it will be later in time is hard to guess with electric rates bound to go up. Once there are a lot of EVs around, those free charging stations will turn into pay-to-charge, and will probably have a pretty big convenience fee that will overshadow the actual electricity cost.
