On the other, I have a hard time keeping focus even with switching schedule as above if I allow it to go to color, so I leave it in B&W 24/7. I do still switch schedule 45 in before/after sunset/sunrise

Completely changing subject but actually regarding the focus problems.
I've noticed that the latest firmwares the actual auto focus is constantly trying to adjust focus.
This morning I did a little test.
It's the first time for a while that weve had hot temps in the UK so the kids are out in the garden in the paddling pool. Washing on the line etc, so constant movement.
I was on the web gui page on the focus tab, (you dont see the next bit on the live view),
But what you can see is the actual continual refocus adjustment and the lock the camera is trying to get.
When it locks it goes red and focuses to that if its yellow it seems like it's trying to get a lock on that and continually focuses in and out in tiny steps which causes the image to look slightly out of focus.
Now obviously I can see how this would effect focus massively during the night in B&W as it's a more subtle change.
There is now way other in the firmware to actually turn the auto focus off, which I think is a big oversight.
Theres the api commands which work and the sunset tool, but this can be cumbersome to some and if running only a nvr it's not possible.
Just an observation I've noticed today whilst doing a little testing
