Review- EmpireTech IPC-T54IR-ZE-S3 4mp Varifocal Turret

To bring the camera AI triggers into BI, go into the camera and set up smart plan with IVS, then go to the IVS screen and draw IVS rules (tripwire or intrusion box) and then select the AI you want it to trigger on (human or vehicle).

Then in BI, there are a few places you need to set this up in BI (assuming you already set up the IVS rules in the camera GUI):

In Camera configure setting check the box "Get ONVIF triggers" or ONVIF/Camera events depending on your BI version..

Hit Find/Inspect on the camera setting to pull the coding for the triggers.

Go into Motion Setting and select the "Cameras digital input" box.

On the Alerts tab uncheck the Motions Zones tab (those are alerting you to any BI motion in those areas in Zones A thru H)

On the alerts tab set up how to be notified.
Trying to follow your suggestions for motion setting with the new firmware. I am not finding the: Go into Motion Setting and select the "Cameras digital input" box. in BI. Not on my trigger tab.

The language has changed depending on you BI version. It may be onvif trigger or external trigger or something similar. You have two options for motion detection in BI - BI motion or camera motion. Choose whatever the other one is called that is not BI motion.

I suggest one additional test of the camera when these arrive. I have a unit that produces a distinct band of brightness near its right frame edge when put into B&W mode. It doesn't always do it, but about 1 out of 4 times I flip it from color to B/W mode, the light band appears in the frame. I think the IR cut filter assembly isn't reliably moving fully. I isn't a light or nearby object creating this line. My manually flipping between color and bw modes should not end up with this bright line appearing for some of the switch overs..

Didn't pick this up until after it had been installed and gone through several nights. My regular daylight only testing prior to installation was insufficient in this instance, It may be good to test out in the dark prior to install.

For a better idea of where to look for this defect, here are two full frames.

First is when the camera is exhibiting the defect. Notice the light band at the right edge of frame. It's not too bad at this level of lighting, but as night gets darker, it becomes more and more noticeable.

with defect showing.jpg

Next is after going into GUI and manually flipping between color and b/w modes a few times. This seems to jostle the optics to eventually settle in a position that doesn't create the light band artifact.

Is this torrent still considered to be the best night time torrent camera ?

Yes, this is still considered the best night-time turret camera as it is on the ideal MP/sensor ratio.

BTW - we are still waiting for that image of freckles on a face at 110 feet the the 58IR-ZE in the post you deleted :lmao:

You didn’t delete it? I was confused lmao :)

Nope. I don't have access to delete whole threads. Two threads you started that day just disappeared LOL.

That’s crazy, but I pulled this for you, car is driving by between 40 and 60 kilometres per hour, u can see the detail with a still. Camera is about 40 feet from the car zoomed in almost full, unfortunately its not a freckle but if you can try to pause the video when u see the car in the middle.. as you will see the driver details..

There is a 9/24/24 release for this on Dahua's website. Is this something that Andy would recommend for his cameras? For example, does it include SmartIR?

The Release Notes don't open, so for me that is a NO GO from the start. You want to know what they are changing to make sure they are not removing something you are using.

But more importantly, keep in mind many of the improvements are made with Andy's firmware first. If we like it, then sometimes Dahua will implement it into their firmware.

So even though their date is "newer", it may be the firmware we have had access to for months.

If I had to guess, I would say this firmware is adding the animal detection checkbox to the firmware, that we have had for months....

Dahua is very bad about messing up the release notes and putting a link back to the product. I agree with the rest of what you said and is good to know about Dahua following Andy's lead. Was just seeing if there is anything from Andy's side as a result.

Since the EmpireTech Amazon listing nor this thread gives the full specs of this 5442-based S3 camera where might I find the full specifications? Also, what's the international model number?

Thanks,

R

Is this EmpireCam the same as the N45FJ6Z from NA distribution?

Dahua Technology AcuPick N45FJ6Z 4MP ePoE Turret Camera with Night Vision

Yes, but it is the 5442 international model. And over half as much than that one from B&E

But I already pointed this out to you in your other thread....

Yes, I was asking what specific variant of the 5442 model since the Empire and specs here on the IPC-T54IR-ZE-S3 are incomplete. I just wanted to see a full spec sheet and needed the full model number to ensure that I was looking at the correct document. Yes, the closest North American variant is $100 more not double and it comes with a 5 year warranty and firmware updates that aren't a crap-shoot.

With that said the BH variant seems to be from 2023 and not as updated as the EmpreTech cam that I think we are talking about, namely the IPC-T54IR-ZE-S3 so there's that....

Thanks for your input, I really appreciate your help!

OH - I forgot that Dahua sold off their North American business, so B&H is probably just trying to sell off their inventory of the older stuff.

But ALL firmware update on these types of cameras are a crapshoot. You are fooling yourself if you think because you buy it from B&H that the firmware can't go wonky. Plus they are a reseller just like EmpireTech. If something goes wrong, it will be up to them to deal with Dahua, which they probably are not doing anymore.

Andy (EmpireTech) is invited to Dahua HQ all the time and has a great relationship with them.

But the North American cameras are even more limited. EmpireTech firmware or Dahua International firmware cannot be flashed on a North America camera. International is a bigger market than the North American market, so improvements are more likely to firmware on the international models.

People have bricked their Dahua camera from B&H (or any North American distributor) trying to get the better features or newer firmware that are typically on the international version.

People have bought from actual Dahua installers and it went wonky on a firmware update. B&H is a 3rd party reseller and I assure you that you will find out how limited their Limited 5-Year Manufacturer Warranty really is.

@Teken said it best in this post when talking about these types of cameras: Firmware: I agree with the other member that this specific area needs improvement! In 2024 there’s zero excuses for bricking a system due to a firmware upgrade.

Empiretech are Dahua OEM sold by Andy. Some of my cameras I have bought from Andy from his Amazon store come as Dahua cams in Dahua boxes with Dahua logos, and some are not logo'd - I think it depends on how many cameras Andy buys if he gets them with the Dahua Logo or not. But regardless, they are Dahua cams.

Like I said the firmware we get from him is actually better because many members here provide feedback to Andy and then Dahua makes modifications to the firmware and sends back to him and then he sends out to his customers. These have been great improvements that Dahua doesn't even update their firmware and add to their website. So many of us are running a newer firmware than those that purchase Dahua cameras through professional installers. Smart IR on the 5442 series is one such improvement. Autotracking on the 49225 is another. Every other vendor the 49225 PTZ does not have autotrack.

EmpireTech's 5442 now has the AI ability for animals is a recent example that won't be on that North America camera for awhile, if at all.

But regardless of the price difference, if I can get a better camera for cheaper than the previous older version, that should be a no-brainer?

Yes, all of your points make a lot of sense and I appreciate your input on this.... BTW: I never intended to flash the NA cams with international firmware.... that would be asking for trouble. :)

Thanks again!

You may not, but people have LOL.

I may or may not be guilty of it myself LOL. Fortunately for me the camera simply didn't flash it.

So, what Dahua NVR for this smart AI cam (IPC-T54IR-ZE-S3)? I see the cam has SMD 3.0 but the 8-Channel AI NVR that Andy sells (NV41AI-8P-4KH) only supports SMD+. I've been told that these new cameras with the AI smarts need the NVR to play along so I assume that this NVR would not be optimal on this issue alone. Can anyone chime in on this one?

EmpireTech NVR 4-EI Series Smart AI 8 Channel Compact 1U 8PoE 1HDD Wiz Network Video Recorder, Face Detection and Recognition,Perimeter Protection,SMD Plus,NV41AI-8P-4KH

What's the optimal match for the IPC-T54IR-ZE-S3?

Thanks,

R
