In case of IP camera I don't think there is any difference between PAL and NTSC other than available framerates. It it important in case of analog systems. As for frame rate, 25fps vs 30fps is not a big difference. You will not loose much.

So do you suggest me to switch camera to PAL mode or leave it in NTSC but lower the FPS from 30 to 25?
Also, try setting the Iframe to the same rate as the FPS in the camera.
Anything above 15fps isn't needed in security video.
I run some of my cams at 10fps, and once I got used to viewing them, it's fine.

Both files are identical. I watched them frame by frame. No duplicated frames. Both are 30fps. I even uploaded your DAV to my youtube. It works fine.

Do you mean the whole video is jerky or do you mean the motion of the car is jerky?

Great review Looney, have been wanting to upgrade from 2mp to 4mp but hadn't as there where not many if any starlights.
Can't wait to get mine in!

So is SmartIR working on this cam or are closeup nighttime images of people still washed out?

Physical dimension comparison of a favorite Dahua 2MP versus the one reviewed in this thread:

IPC-HDW5231R-ZE ----- Φ122mm×104mm( 4.8”×4.09”)
IPC-HDW5442TM-AS --- Φ106mm×99.2mm (4.17”×3.91”)

For a Dahau junction box both would use the PFA130-E junction box with measurements ---- Φ124mmx41mm(4.88”x1.61”)

Since the 5442 is smaller you are going to have about 0.3" stepped appearance where the 5442 mates up to the PFA130-E junction box.

Whereas for the 5231 it appears to be almost perfectly aligned with the junction box as shown below.

In the second firmware I tried, yes Auto IR is working fairly well, it still isn't Smart IR good, but better than it was.
With the third firmware upgrade, still no SmartIR, but the AI features are broken.

Hi guys, I purchased this camera but BlueIris does not detect the correct model number when I set it up. Do I just set it up as a bog standard ONVIF camera? Will I lose its great nightvision if I do?

Night vision has nothing to do with Blue Iris. Use find/inspect in Bi, and use what it finds.
Ok thanks for the reply, I was just confused that it didn't find the correct model of camera and just chose a standard camera profile. My NAS used to find the correct model, but maybe Blue Iris doesn't work this way. Cheers!
