Since our last update, the Starlink team has been hard at work building the systems and infrastructure to enable growth while continuously improving service quality. Below are some of the highlights:
Space Lasers
As Elon recently mentioned, the Starlink team is preparing to launch upgraded satellites that will include space lasers. Space lasers enable our satellites to transfer data between each other without having to go through a ground station. Once fully deployed, space lasers will
make Starlink one of the fastest options available to transfer data around the world.

Connecting to the Best Satellite
The team completed roll out of a new feature to all users that enables your Starlink to seamlessly switch to a different satellite in real time if communication with your assigned satellite is interrupted for any reason. There can only be one satellite connected to your Starlink at any time, but this feature will enable choice of the best satellite, resulting in far fewer network disruptions.

High Temperature Management
The Starlink team has initiated a series of software improvements that change how your Starlink responds to high temperatures. These improvements will roll out over the next few weeks and should address invalid “Thermal Shutdown” app alerts seen by some customers.

Starlink App Upgrades
The Starlink team recently rolled out several improvements that enable users to
do all of the following from the app:
  • make network name/password changes
  • enable WPA3 security
  • separate control of 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz
To date, Starlink has received deposits from almost every country around the world. Going forward, our ability to expand service will be driven in part by governments granting Starlink licensing internationally.

I canceled my Starlink pre-order recently because I'm moving soon. Ironically the place I'm moving to has Starlink available for immediate shipping, but I should not need it. There is "gigabit" cable service available ... if you can call internet with 35 Mbps upload "gigabit". Cable internet is notoriously bad in a lot of places so my fingers are crossed. There's also a good fixed wireless provider in the area which my parents have been on for 5+ years. But it is good to have Starlink as an option in the back pocket.

While reading old posts in order to inform another member about ISP options, I came across yours above.

About an hour ago I got "the email" from Starlink. If you're still on the waiting list, you know what that means. I got booted from Mid to Late 2021 to... Mid 2022. I hopped on the Starlink forum on Reddit and the consensus question is, what will the next push back date be? 2023? 2024?

Anyway, T-Mobile 5g Home internet just (like two weeks ago) became available in my area.

I jumped on a bunch of sites, and everyone is saying that what they're promising is for real. No contract, so if I don't like it I'll dump it real quick. What do I have to lose, 50 bucks (Yay?)... Here's hoping because my 6Mbps/768Kbps ATT DSL connection sucks.

I have it, works pretty good so far

Backup internet

You guys got redundant internet? I figured I have redundant power, so I may as well get redundant internet. T-Mobile 5G Home internet, $50 a month, no limits, no contract I have AT&T Fiber 1G/1G which is great, but if a tree falls on it, then I'm done I spent a good amount of time testing...

Same here.
Signed up June 2021, was told late 2021, today was informed that it's now mid 2022....we'll see...I don't have many options so I'll just keep hangin' on.
Meanwhile, the AT&T Fixed Wireless could be a heckuva lot worse; it's fast (25-40 Mbps down / 2.0 to 4.0 Mbps up) when compared to my 2009 to 2019 CenturyLink ADSL (1.5 Mbps down / 512 Kbps up). Just wish it wasn't CGNAT (no public IP). They allow me 320 Gb per month data for $50....not too shabby.

Loving Starlink internet signed up early beta and have had Starlink for several months now.
The only issues I have encountered have been related to CGNAT. I can't even recall what workarounds I had to implement to get around this. It was a bit messy, but works ok now.

My heart goes out to anyone who is still waiting.
Heard a lot of people who were due for a delivery date of mid/ to late 2021 may have to wait another 12 months!!!

Starlink Signed up 1st September 2020 order confirmed & Shipped 7th/8th October 2021.

Some nights she goes into hyper drive .. and compared to the POS Xplornet that we had, Starlink is ridiculously superb. There, I said it :headbang:

I believe my speeds were over 650 when I scrambled to screen shot the test .. by the time I got it, it had dropped to 500. We've had it for going on a yr now, and nowadays our speeds aren't often below 200 down, 20 up. And VERY little seems to phase it . rain downpours, blizzards, you name it and it just keeps ticking away. Buffering is unheard of now .. if you're contemplating Starlink .. just do it.

Yes, my daughter who was looking to get away from crappy cell service got pushed back too. So they've had to put up a big antenna for another service.

Glad that I have gig fiber to the house here.

It literally changed our lives .. first we noticed very little to no downtime, then that we didn't have to connect every extension pole we had to climb up on the upper tier deck to push snow off the Xplornet dish any longer, then no buffering, then streaming 8K content, then pretty large downloads became pedestrian, lag dropped from 650-1200ms to 20-80ms, and the list goes on. So many improvements in our day to day QOL pivoted once we moved to Starlink.

Damned impressive tech if you've ever watched the Youtube vids of guys ripping their dishes down. But crazy simple .. plug in, it boots, spins around, loads up the map of sats and begins working effortlessly. It basically the way tech ought to be in this 21st of centuries. Easy.

I too feel for any folks having to wait but know that the wait will be more than worth it in the end. I'm in the boonies .. but we get faster internet than some of the larger cities nearby. It kinda cracks me up ..

Well, just yesterday the local electric coo-op that supplies our electricity strung fiber pole to pole on our street yesterday. They've also been stringing segments from the tie point 5 miles away so eventually they'll tie it all together and light it up. I signed up late 2020 and they projected our phase would be done by late 2022, looks like they're ahead and now say mid '22.

I know of one place near that tiepoint that got lit up Dec. 7th, has 50M down and 50M up; I know to you city dwellers that sounds like crap but when you've had ADSL with 1.5M down and 512K up since '09 it'll feel like a rocket blast.

I'm keeping my $99 down with Starlink though just in case.... :cool:
