The official "WTF" thread

Excerpt:

The incident happened in Texas. Photo was taken by the volunteer fire department. A utility power line landed on a gas meter. Current found its way to ground through the water heater. National electrical code requires that gas lines be bonded to a grounding electrode conductor if it is likely that the gas line become energized. If this gas line had been properly bonded using a 6 AWG wire (minimum), then the utility fuse would have tripped and opened the utility power.

I'm sure they need to have a lift station here and there because of elevations so the pipe does require some structural integrity BUT........do your pressure checks with only air in the pipe or maybe clear water but NOT sewage!!

It likely hit the impeller!

I worked on a few pumps and pump controls at STORM sewer lift stations in Nor Ca where county expressways had underpasses so the rainwater had to be lifted up to join the local municipal storm sewer system. Thankfully, that same city maintained their own SANITARY sewer lift stations. :poop::poop::winktongue:

Wow!
Glad to hear the dogs are OK and the house didn't burn to the ground.

I wonder if the homeowner got notified by his camera or he was watching the pets and called the fire dept? Either way, the place could have burned to the ground had it not been for the camera possibly.

At our old house I bought a relay for our smoke detectors, my plan was to connect it to our Konnected alarm system which alerted me if a window or door opened when we were not home. I need to look into the same here at our new house. To get an alert of a fire/smoke early on may help save our house.

It'll be a court battle for years:
  • The amputee will claim the company was negligent in allowing/requiring him to perform the fateful task with an ankle monitor attached.
  • The company will claim they weren't responsible for the acts perpetrated by the amputee that caused him to wear the mandated ankle monitor
My vote, not that it matters or that I think it is just, is that the company will be required pay. :idk:
