The Typical picture of a Perp on Nextdoor-type Apps with Consumer Grade Cameras like Ring, Nest, Arlo, Canary, Wyze, etc.

Middle of the day guy pulling up and stealing construction tools. Can anyone make out the person across the street getting out of the vehicle to pick up the tools?

What about a license plate? A poster mentioned that the police could enhance this :lmao:

No perp pictures yet, but then just came across Nextdoor I am sure some will get a kick out of:

"Any home security camera recommendations? Looking for battery but very clear picture, if you can’t make out a face or license plate etc I don’t want it!
Something I can order and get this week. Indoor and outdoor preferred "

And then the comments LOL (Blink seems to be the winner so far LOL):

We have Blink and it’s super clear! Even the night vision. My house is too far from the street to get a license plate though. So I’m not sure about that one.

We have blink, and love it! I can include a day and night screenshot!

Sadly there is no video to this, but we know what the quality would have been LOL:

"Our car was stolen out of our driveway sometime between 11:15pm and 2:30am. It was parked at the end of our driveway and our Ring did not pick it up."

Yet another reason why 24/7 recording is invaluable.

Anyone recognize this guy checking car doors?

And here is the classic example of a camera too high.

And the problem with motion detection lights coming on and ruining the potential money shot.

And then when the motion light comes on and the cameras exposure ruins the image at what could be the money shot. Don't even see the guy at the drivers side car door due to the cameras exposure adjusting to more light:

And then the exposure adjusts, but then the wifi can't keep up with the motion and pixelates.

4am Bike Theft caught on Ring. Shows the various things we talk about:
  • wifi cam cannot keep up and it is pixelated
  • motion activated lights temporarily blind the camera and could miss the money shot of the perp
  • motion activated lights do not deter and the perps don't even flinch
  • trying to do too much with one field of view
  • Default shutter (or shutters that cannot be set) will demonstrate the short-comings in low light with motion blur

Thanks to the power of recording on motion detection only, the middle of the day thief stealing a bike was not caught walking up to the bike, only as they started to leave.
