Hi Everyone...

I currently have ring. arlo pro 2 and wyze and blink cameras all running at my home..
I tested each one and found they all just plain suck.. but the blink cameras are the only one that caught a kid trying to break into my shed.. caught him running down my drive way .. since then i got tired of changing the batteries and buying their solar power nonsense. I wanna get a better system to set and forget.. I would like to ask you all to him me build a budget system.. I need two cameras on my front porch possibly 3.. I wanna be able to see in all directions cause this is where the action happens.. I thought maybe a ptz. I need maybe 2 for my driveway.. and maybe a few for yard.. I also share my cameras with a neighbor next door who gets robbed all the time.. I set up 3 cams around his home using my wifi.. Help me get off the wifi/battery nipple.. build me a system that doesn't suck has 24/7 recording.. and good NVR.. i have a dedicated computer already for this system. I would like any input for a budget system,, Thanks

Welcome to IPCT.
Please have a read of the Cliff Notes in the Wiki.

It might help to upload pics of properties or to screenshot aerial view from google maps. It's difficult to make camera suggestions without this.
If I have this right your requirements are:
Your Property
2x Camera Porch
2x Camera Driveway
2x Yard

Neighbors Property
3x Camera for neighbor

Since you already have a dedicated PC, you might be able to use your existing PC instead of a NVR.
I would recommend using a pair of Nanostation's for the link to neighbors property.
You will also need 1-2 POE switches depending on the setup.

You have learned an expensive lesson.

My standard welcome to the forum message.

Please read the cliff notes and other items in the wiki. The wiki is in the blue bar at the top of the page.

Read How to Secure Your Network (Don't Get Hacked!) in the wiki also.

Quick start
1) If you do not have a wired monitored alarm system, get that first
2) Use Dahua starlight cameras or Hikvision darkfighter cameras or ICPT Night eye cameras (Store | IP Cam Talk) if you need good low light cameras.
3) use a VPN to access home network (openVPN)
4) Do not use wifi cameras.
5) Do not use cloud storage
6) Do Not use uPNP, P2P, QR, do not open ports,
7) More megapixel is not necessarily better.
8) Avoid chinese hacked cameras (most ebay, amazon, aliexpress cameras(not all, but most))
9) Do not use reolink, ring, nest cameras (they are junk), no cloud cameras
10) If possible use a turret camera , bullet collect spiders, dome collect dirt and reflect light (IR)
11) Use only solid copper, AWG 23 or 24 ethernet wire. , no CCA (Copper Clad Aluminum)
12) use a test mount to verify the camera mount location. My test rig: rev.2
13) (Looney2ns)If you want to be able to ID faces, don't mount cams higher than 8ft. You want to know who did it, not just what happened.
14) Use a router that has openVPN built in (Most ASUS, Some NetGear....)
15) camera placement use the calculator... IPVM Camera Calculator V3

Lots & lots & lots of reading I'm sorry to say, and a few questions too. But Good things come to those that (should be wait, but) , Don't expect to have it sorted over a weekend.
