Windows 10 - Auto Startup Problem w/ Blue Iris

That did it. Its working! Many thanks, fenderman.

fenderman, I am getting closer! I have several AvertX mini dome cams that are 1080P and have the ability to Zoom optically by a factor of 3X. They are not PTZ, just 'Z' only. I know there are thousands of cameras but if the AvertX is not listed as a PTZ cam in any of the menus can you think of a way (or an alternative choice) to try to get this to zoom? So far the plus and minus icons will not zoom the camera in the Android app or on the PC with BI4, although they do work in other monitoring software that I use.

Hey guys...as always, thanks for maintaining such a great forum. I have a big head-scratcher for you guys and having wrestled with the problem for 2 days, I think I need some help.

I basically went through the steps above for setting up as a service, and on my home machine, it worked just perfectly. But the remote install (a different house), I've had a HUGE issue crop up. Basically what happens, is that when I restart the PC and Windows (8.1) loads, the BI service starts up in the background, and I can see the cameras for about 10 seconds via remote web connection (and/or Ipad app). But then I can't see anything after that. Thankfully, I have "GotoMyPc" installed on that machine, so I can remotely log in and try to debug.

But so far no luck...I even set the Blue Iris back to the original setting (uncheck enable as a service), and it simply does not work anymore. And strangely, when I use an IP/Port checker like "CanUseeme.org" it reports that the port is not open or connectable. But I've done nothing to the port and checked my router to confirm that the IP address and Port are what I had them set to.

Any thoughts/ideas? I should say, that this install had been working flawlessly all year, so something about setting up as a service has triggered this issue.

Please help...since I'm not physically located at the house (not until 2 weeks from now), I'm pretty stuck!

Thanks in advance

1. you dont need to run as a service for auto startup, simply follow the instructions the link i posted.
2. your issue could be firewall related, with the firewall starting up after blue iris..check your settings..what firewall are you using?

Ahh...Fenderman! Somehow you always seem to know! Wow man...that was it!!!! Here's what happened......This PC that I bought came with a bunch of bloatware, which I promptly un-installed. But the McAfee firewall was waiting in the wings, and I think when Windows 8.1 did a big update, it must have re-enabled it. That's the only explanation that makes sense.

Thank you so much for the pointers! I will now go back to your link and try the method you describe!

Thanks again...saved my bacon!

Did you put the shortcut in the startup folder? Have you tested manually running the process in task scheduler?

Tested it in the task manager... success. a cmd window opened as well, but I think that is part of this process. Now, for the dumb question... where the hell is the startup folder in windows 10? I never upgraded to 8 because I am not an app oriented person. :P

Thanks!

I followed the instructions from the link that Fenderman provided and my BI4 boots up beautifully upon restarting the computer intentionally or automatically after a power loss. The only issue I am having is that the software (or perhaps Windows 10?) does connect back with the modem. So, if I am out of town, lose power and then the system resets, BI4 may be active with cameras recording but I will not be able to log into BI4 remotely. Is there a setting in Windows 10 or BI4 (or both) that will fix this? I rely heavily upon the need to use this remotely and we have a great many power outages in the north west. I do have an uninterrupted power supply keeps everything running for 90 minutes but our outage near Spokane last night was 12 hours long. Any suggestions?

Something is not right. What do you mean not connecting with the modem? Does the pc have internet access after the reboot?

Do you need to have a shortcut in the start up folder and do the creat a task as shown on another forum before blue iris will auto load? I don't use a log in.

I'm also looking for a way for my computer to shut down when the power goes off. I guess this can be done with my battery back up software but one of the programs I use takes a few minutes to shutdown. It would be nice if my computer would turn it self back on once the battery back up is at 50% charged.

I don't know if that is possible or not.

Im pretty sure you need the shortcut in the startup..I havent setup a new system in a while so i forget...
You dont want the pc shutting down, this will prevent it from turning back on after power is resumed. The pc can handle the power loss just fine.

I want it to shutdown if the power has been off for awhile and the battery back up is getting low and then turn back on once the battery back up is charged to 50% or so. The weather software i use log gets corrupted if shut down without being closed out first.

Well you need to determine if your weather software is more important than your VMS...you could also see if you can run a script that will simply shut down the weather software

I get a error on start up "The requested operation requires elevation" It runs fine if i try to run it from task scheduler.
