How does the picture quality look without any illuminators and external light?
That is what you are looking at. The external light comes from the neighbors porch light and whatever ambient light there is such as street lights and lights by the gate that illuminate the front of the houses.

Yeah, but that is with some ambient light! I will post later what it looks like with no ambient light.

I agree, there is ambient light available. Just that no camera lights are turned on.

Here is one from 1 AM after he finally turned off the kitchen light. The next door porch light is on all night. I think the picture is pretty good considering the location and all the light variations. I am also happy with the clarity in the distance. It is better than I thought it might be. By the way the camera lights are off on my wife's orders. If the lights were partially on things might be a little different.

Glad you're enjoying it @Parley. As I mentioned, with the FOV and lighting conditions + ensuring it has the WAF for you with regards to not using LED's this now gives you a very usable image (without sacrificing quality to auto exposure etc) that only gets better should you wish to add/turn on the LED's (onboard) at a later time etc.

You will always need and benefit from light in any situation, even more so with full color at night + the fact that this is a 4K sensor. Therefore as I showed in the videos whether you start with small ambient or just onboard LED's, anything you add to that will only better the performance in your favor. So if you have light in your FOV already @Arjun its a good place to start and you should be pleasantly pleased with the onboards in addition. If you add more (even as in a 60w - 100w bulb or 2) then you'll see even better results.

We'll also see some more of the 1/1.8" 4k vari's in between times too I believe BUT the larger sensor seen here in the Color4K-x will be at least 1 to 1.5 years out at the moment. Still things to look forward to though like upgraded PTZ's, multi-sensor cams etc that I'm sure will help keep wallet's light :)

I just installed a 1/1.8" 4K Varifocal bullet the other day 2831T- ZAS-S2 , very pleased with daytime performance. I obviously have reservations at night though because this model requires supplemental light regardless :p

Here is a picture of the camera at night with no external light and the white LED off and shutter at 0-8.33, gain 0-50, NR at 25 and the remaining at default. Now if I ran it auto shutter, then it will look like noon LOL, but motion would be a blur.

I am surprised how much it picked up from light through the window that was from a room away inside.

no light on.jpg

But add just a little light from the white LED, and it is a winner!

Definitely worth waiting to upgrade when a varifocal version comes out, I see the potential here, but a smaller turret foam factor will be worth it. Would be cool to integrate a couple of IR emitters too, but there's only so much you can squeeze in these cameras before they start screaming for air to breathe

I see a varifocal turret as the money shot. If such a camera could film itself, it would be porn.

Yes, i tested looks good. But i am waiting to fix up the 4K bullet we met firstly, will finish the job soon
Any prediction as for varifocal and/or turret style?

My sister bought the cam together with 5442. She would need more cams.
So far, if looks like the 5849 is superior day and night. We keep testing but clearly a varifocal turret could be the winner cam for us.

Thanks Aaron, please share some idea for this camera.
Right now still not get a good housing to put all function on this smaller size camera, one way can do , less functions, but that will effect the total performance.
