The IPC-HDW5231R-Z is suitable for indoor or outdoor use and has better image quality.
Thanks again,

So, it seems like IPC-HDW5231R-Z is the best below $200 PTZ, at least better in all respects including dimensions than SD29204T-GN ? Just wanted to make sure before I order.

Except that the 5231 is not a PTZ..... Right? That's what thread we're in? Sorry I'm on phone at work and I don't have all the model numbers straight.

thats the range of adjustment you have in the mount.. you read it wrong.. if it was a PTZ you'd see how fast it can pan/tilt/zoom in the specs too.

Ah, I see. Apologies for the silly question. I do need a PTZ for the cat-cam :)
outside? Gonna cost you $350+ for anything somewhat decent and its gonna be massive overkill for whatever a cat-cam is.

i really doubt you need a PTZ; you might want a PTZ.. but few people need a PTZ.

$350....unless you get this one provided it had a decent amount of protection, like a large overhang Dahua Starlight Recessed Dome PTZ (SD52C225U-HNI)

Right? Kinda circling back around to my original question a few posts up.....

EDIT: crap, that one is the $350 one. I was trying to reference the one that @nayr details in his doorbell automatic PTZ how to thread... It was around the same price as this turret....I meant this one Dahua Mini Black Face PTZ (SD29204S-GN)

No, that's for indoors.

The wife adopted a cat from a shelter she's worried about (baby-cam -> cat-cam). So, I do need an indoor PTZ to see what it's up to when we are away for a day or so.

Does anyone have a picture of this thing hanging from a soffit?I'd like to get a better idea of how big it is. Wifey is concerned about upsetting the Feng Shui. If it's in this thread already which page? Thanks

Right, that's what I already have outdoors.

I thought there might be something smaller for indoors of comparable quality. When I suggested getting the same for indoors, the wife commented that it would look like a CVS camera (with a wall bracket). But, if that's the best PTZ below $200, it's going to be the one regardless esthetics.

thats the cheapest and smallest PTZ thats not a total waste of your money if you insist on a PTZ.
Thanks.

I need to cover 180 deg: the feeder, the countertop (already 90 deg) and the stairs another 90 deg.

What? You don't have a "Cat-Cam"? How do you keep track of your cats?
I thought for sure you'd have a cam watching your cats come & go.

Cat In\Out Tracking...Well, really to catch intruders coming in the garage but it get the cats on vid all day too. Old pic. It is at a much better angle now.
(hdw5231r-z - Bet you could set up all kinds of automation & logging around this!)

I figured as much!
I have a basic IVS question..I just started playing with IVS line cross on this cam. Why are all the lines \ box necessary?...Why not just the one line where the crossing detection occurs? I mean if crossing the other lines does not trigger anything what is their purpose?

those are intrusion zones, cat just sit there and dont move much when eating or just lounging at the doorway.. when they are still the camera looses them as an object, then they move there head or flip there tail and it triggers a recording.. this camera does not record continuously, just on IVS rules.

linecross dont work well in this situation at all, its gonna have trouble tracking objects that just appear and disappear w/out walking in one side of the image and exiting out the other side.. intrusion on the other hand will go off if an object suddenly appears within that box.

I've set my camera up for both motion detection and alarm input via pir. When motion is detected and the the pir triggers within a few second of each other the resulting video on playback stutters and a few frames are lost due to differently triggered events. This never happened on my 4mp Hikvision and the resulting video was seamless even when alam input and motion were triggered together.

Is there a setting im missing or is this a bug in the firmware?

Thanks
