Interesting how different opinions could be. Honestly I'm happy that we have stricter laws in Germany against hidden capturing. Here you would have to inform employees being recorded and I'm happy with that. This doesn't mean I don't do a good job at all or have something to hide. If I'm informed I don't care if I'm recorded or not. I advocate surveillance in public areas to get 'em more secure or have some evidence at least.

I find it interesting in chatting with you all and noticing that people who have home/office security cams set up are more aware of them in every day life. My boss' husband had set up a big piece of tri-fold board in the window next to where a computer is in the work room. The window is about 5 feet away from it... he said it was for privacy. the windows are tinted, outside the window is a thick hedge, and then the street is another 20 feet from there. it makes me think that because he is more paranoid about other people spying on him that maybe he is indeed into using security cameras.

Ya just never know. That does seem a tad odd. Part of his reasoning may have been to block the light off the computer screen as well.
He doesn't meet with Tony Soprano from time to time in that room does he? :)

@looney2ns No, it wouldn't have to do with the glare. It's super weird because he pretty much has nothing to do with the shop. He comes in rarely, or sometimes hangs out there in the early mornings before his work. . He specifically said it had to do with privacy. it's just odd! And maybe he does!! Lol ;)

Strange indeed. Is it for privacy from you or his wife maybe? To keep you from seeing what's he's watching on the computer? Just spit balling here.

We never open any of the blinds in our house and we have thick dark curtains in the livingroom and bedroom, I don't want people looking into my house, at my stuff, or even knowing I have a TV, but then I've been burglarized so, there ya go. The world isn't full of unicorns pooping rainbows.

Meh it doesn't really matter. I just remembered that it was a thing. That's legit @hmjgriffon .. At home I use closed curtains on all the windows as well. Never been robbed, but years ago I lived in a rough neighborhood and got used to making sure no one knew what I had for sure.

Alright @JLiz, against my better judgement I'll toss out the following... Just remember curiosity killed the cat.

Download the following program on any computer that is on the network in the office - Advanced IP Scanner
Advanced IP Scanner 2.4.3021

What the above program does is scans the network to show you all the connected network devices on said network. It will show you all the computers, printers, wireless/wired devices that have an IP. Some may not be obvious what they are others will directly say HP Printer. But, it will provide you the IP address to ever device and if you want you can simply start typing those IP's listed into your web browser to see if you end up at a camera or NVR login page.

Smart Phone Apps - If you have an android device download the free program called "Wifi Annalyzer" and continue your snooping. This will show you all the networks (wireless) and the devices around you as well as tell you what network they are connected to. If you have iOS you can download something called "Network Analyzer lite" and get most of the same info. Both these are Free downloads.

Proceed with caution though with any/all the above - my personal feeling is still "mind your own business" since it is work related - however, I am a curious individual as well and would do all the above with little care in the world, so I'll just toss out a few ideas, do with them as you will.

Hell no I couldn't leave my blinds and curtains closed all day long. I need the natural sunlight during the day,if someone wants to see me walking around in my boxers drinking beer ,good for them. Then again their isn't any houses behind me or in front of me. Far as security we have security cameras all around the property, we have a alarm system, and guns , I also put extra locks on the doors/windows so the only way in is to break the window, Which would set off the alarm, and by the time someone made it in they would have a gun barrel point at there face. There is only so much you can really do if someone wants in bad enough, they will get in.

Perhaps when I've got all my outside cameras up and more security stuff I'll feel like that lol.

Another good Android app is Fing, It'll show everything connected to the local wifi network (as long as you're connected to one).
