In the TOP-201 case format?
It sounds like you have the mechanical shutter IR filter, as opposed to the fixed film filter in the lens.
I only can guess what is TOP-21 case format/ My camera is outdoor short bullet shaped. And yes. It is with the mechanical filter.

Can I remove the IR filter on the lens to get the IR function?
Sometimes, lol ....

With some lens its possible... and others its not.

The major problem is that the basic camera whilst being fantastic value for money, is not able to be all things to all men cos to keep the price down the IR has to suffer, there are ways around the problem but as it stands the camera is either a day cam or a night cam.. not both.

The simple cure is to 1. change the lens to one that is not IR blocking, and 2. remove the board and fit a switchable filter (plug that into the existing 2 pin socket on the board) .... but with simple comes the major major issue that if you have the narrow depth case (13mm) then it aint going to fit back in, lol

Sooooooooo... 3. Order a different case (21mm)

Put it all together and you will have a 'top-21' that is color corrected for day, and will also see IR at night.. may be actually best to just build it from scratch, then you will have the options of 1.3MP or 2MP which is better than the std version.

I think the one in the picture is this one from dealextreme. Took about a month to get it in (from China) but seems to work alright.

Here is the 2.5mm I have in mine....Looks like IR filter on the back, but has slots which I may be able to screw off and remove the filter..huh, about to try it now..

Removed IR filter...used exacto knife to trim glue around slotted retainer, made a slotted tool, unscrewed retainer, removed IR filter, screwed retainer back in..hope it works

worked fine!

Hello people, I'm new here. Had to register just to ask one very simple question. My Top-201 came today and I can log in by default on 192.168.1.10, with username admin and blank password, but that is the only thing I can do. The supplied mini CD isn't working, and my Firefox says I'm missing plugin to view the video. Any help on how to view the stream will be most appreciated!

Edit: Found the software on page 2 or 3 of the thread, something called CMS, and it displays the image. Still can't get it to work inside Firefox.

This is the version

Glad that worked out for you! And your daytime picture, you are alright with the color difference now that you don't have the filter on the lens?
The daytime image is washed out color so I just set it to black and white....more interested in the night time IR capabilities. Is there a way to get better color image in daytime and retain the IR capabilities?

I am not at home to check right now, but if I am remembering correctly, the web interface to the camera does allow for color adjustments. I think that when I did this however, the color change was only affecting the web page and not the feed to where I was recording. I could be thinking of one of the other cams I have though.

Dakky21....My understanding is that you have to use Internet Explorer in active x mode and that other browser may not work with this camera. However, use ispy or another camera software to monitor the camera. Good luck!! Keep us posted...

I used the interface to adjust color but limited to washed out greens and reds no matter how I adjusted the color...thanks for your advice!!

Thank you Uber, though I can't change default password through Device manager. It always goes not responding and then SetConfigTimeOut. If I'm not mistaken, I should enter a new password in the AdminPsw field and click Modify?

Thanks, I've seen it already. Didn't read it though, but noticed there are FW upgrade links... should I upgrade fw? I will read the whole post a bit later, just tell me should I first upgrade it to be on the current version?

I've been busy modifying some of my cameras and documenting everything on my web site for others that may wish to do the same. Some cameras are different than what have been discussed in this thread, but 2 are the same and in previous posts I promissed to provide an update on several things others and myself were trying to do, like add a microphone & speaker, add a photocell to control the IR cut filter, etc. I have no interest in spending more time repeating what I've already done to provide the updates here, so if waiting for an update or interested in seeing how I've modified some of my IP cam's, please visit my amateur radio web site at http://ve6sbs.sbszoo.com/ and look for the links to my "IP Camera Mod's" part way down the list of other links under "Projects".

So if your asking me if you should upgrade. My answer will always be "If your device is not on the most current version of firmware for that device. Then upgrade that device.". When possible.
Updated it. Last version I found on that Chinese link was this:

I got PW changed and can access the stream from VLC
Still can't get it from Firefox without installing Quicktime.
How to open it on a mobile device? (Android)

BTW: the stream has some grainy texture, which doesn't change, even if I move the camera arount. The texture stays the same. Is that normal?

THANKS!

Yes, Quicktime is required for decoding the stream through Firefox.

How to open it on a mobile device? (Android)THANKS!
There is an app called vMEyeCloud or vMEyeSuper, Created for Android as well as Apple IOS. I can upload the all the files and additional information if needed.

EDIT: After checking the files, I found there is also vMEye for Blackberry.
