Hi all,

Firstly, thanks to all the contributors to this forum. I've been reading the forums non-stop for a few weeks. I've spent most of the time hanging out, okay lurking, in the Dahua Hardware section.

I will be building my first system using Dahua cams.

I'm looking for advice and opinions on everything. Have not given much thought to the NVR,but that should be easy compared to camera selection. I will be happy to upload captures to share to the forum. I have found them to be be very helpful.

The site:
  • Semi Rural - coverage area (~700 ft x ~300 ft )
  • Single point of access to property is via a bridge, all sides protected by a 12 ft deep muddy drainage canal.
  • Office /Shed - Location (1)
  • Location (1) is connected via wireless bridge (Loco M5 )
  • Residence - Location (2)
  • Distance to the choke point from location (1) is 385 ft or 190 ft (2) from residence.
  • At night we have no light.
Coverage:
  • Bridge (choke point) coverage is crucial. Coverage should be at least good enough for LPR day/night
  • Would prefer all coverage from location (1) but may have to place another cam at location (2). A single camera solution may not be possible given the distances/coverage/quality required.
  • (1) Location: Shed - A camera (PTZ) will be mounted aprox 16 ft from ground and would have to cover a distance of up to 215 ft to rear of residence, up to 150 ft in other directions. It has a clear line of site to the choke point (bridge) 385 ft.
  • (2) Location: Residence - would be fixed under an eve aprox 190 ft to choke point.
  • (3-6) Locations -: IR illuminators, if you can convince me I should not get a PTZ with Laser IR for location (1).
The contenders:
  • Dahua Starlight PTZ 30x - 40x - for location (1)
  • Dahua Varifocal Bullet or lite PTZ location (2)

Thanks :)

Thanks BP2008! I have decided to go with the Z12 (IPC-HFW5231E-Z12) for Location (2) r. It should cover the choke point perfectly.

Looking at getting a PTZ for Location (1). I am leaning towards the SD6AE240V-HNI. I'm not sure the SD6AE230F-HNI or the SD6AL230F-HNI are worth the extra ~$500 aud for this install.

I'm still exploring my options for a NVR, the NVR5216-4KS2 is looking okay, despite the IVS events issues others have mentioned in other threads.

Coveragemap.png I've made a coverage map for the build. We should be looking at 100ppf in the red and green zones. If all goes well I may add a few extra camera's to other areas not covered.

Heres a rough drawing of the planned build. I plan to update this drawing adding in part numbers, and items I have not added or missed out. (because im a newb). Hopefully this will assist others who are planning a similar setup in the future. I think i will probably add links to vendors and manufacturers in another post.

Updated the Network plan. Now includes part numbers, surge protection, PoE injectors & Splitters.

Anything written in red, I'm not 100% sure about.

Nice setup and planning.

imho I would add another camera ( maybe a starlight turret ) to location 2 at this time to get better video coverage and recording there.

Yes, planning on expanding/adding addition cameras for better coverage. I'm already sold on the idea of multiple angles at strategic points. Its a great suggestion.

I forgot to update this. The build has been completed for a while now. I had to give up on the IR cannons as the pair I ordered never showed up. I added an additional camera to the interior of the shed a Dahua HDW5231R-Z. I've left off the surge protectors from the diagram. I have about half a dozen protecting the hardware from surges.

If anyone is in the learning or planning stage, the plans drawn in this thread were made by using a combination of Edraw Max + snagit + photoshop.
You really only need Edraw Max, the other programs were used for easier editing.

Backed up with TC-Carrier & TC-CON's used for cabling, I pray and hope none of this don't get tested anytime soon.

If I was "lightning", I would not dare to strike your place :)
Well done on your design and implementation!
Thumbs up!

Still updating network (in progress). It's gotten a little more complex since the original 3 camera setup.
Thinking of an additional 3 cameras to this current network diagram (attached).
I have upgraded to ubiquity switches, newer Nanostations and enclosures/comms racks.

Also, I forbid @EMPIRETECANDY to sell me any more cameras unless they are super awesome. :p
