This appears to be the correct thread for help on this issue.

I've searched this FORUM and have not located the solution for activating IVS via a SMART PLAN on my NVR.

I've created IVS trips lines for each camera through the camera interface and the only active camera is the Dahua Starlight PTZ SD59225U-HNI and on the actual NVR screen, I can see the trip line and intrusion boxes but the remaining 15 cameras, nothing.

I'm running the following equipment:

Dahua DH-NVR5216-4KS2, 8TB Purple HD, Software Version: 3.215.0000.3, build : 2017-12-11 and I believe this is the most recent stable firmware update

ONVIF Version2.42

For my home system, I have updated all of my cameras to Dahua (Starlights) and use Blue Iris. My goal now is to educate myself on the Dahua NVRs and cameras in order to expand my equipment knowledge and business. I installed several systems using Alibi branded Hikvision equipment and have had no issues with line crossing and intrusion detection setup. I know it is something simple on my end but I'm stumped.

Thanks.
Did you setup the IVS in the cams or in the NVR for the cams which don’t show the lines and boxes?

My NVR5216-4KS2 has a 5v fan. Details of the Noctua fan swap ares on this thread: Dahua NVR Quiet Silent Fan Mod
Hi i believe this Mod is for the normal fan, issue with the POE NVR is the fan within the PSU which is noisy.

Replacing the fan is not an issue but you still need to make sure it is still having enough circulation of air as before to avoid degrading of the NVR. I hope yours is OK as you are running a 5v fan and have even reduced it further.

For the NVR5216-4KS2 (without PoE ports) the power supply is an external brick, so the internal heat load is lessened (as is the noise). The fan header for the case fan that blows across the circuit board is 5v, which is why I used a 5v replacement fan. (Many 12v fans won't even start at this voltage, and those that do turn very slowly. Conversely, hooking a 5v fan to a 12v header will almost certainly result in smoke.) Between opening the side of the case to get smooth and unthrottled airflow through the fan and mounting the case to take advantage of convection, the unit is plenty cool.

Maybe Dahua has finally realized noisy fans are bad news. I noticed while browsing the Dahua International New Product section, they are releasing new versions (V2.0) of the NVR52/54/58xx series NVR's. Now they have a "Smart Fan" that will automatically adjust fan speed as needed. For most of us, our NVR is rarely under a heavy load, so hopefully the new versions will be much quieter. Too bad, it's too late for most of us already owning one of these.

I have the version 1 and mine already does this. When it’s 75 in my house the thing is loud as can be but when it’s 60 in my house the thing is near silent. The fan speed changes based on how hot it gets.

Anyone using an KVM Extender over Ethernet to remotely manage the NVR instead over the Web UI?
I was thinking if Aten CE100 or CE700 would work which forwards both VGA and USB over 1 single cat5e cable, anyone tested that?

Anyone in London, UK area available to help???
Hi @davw, I had exaclty the same issue and managed to get mine working again using an rs232 usb serial cable (very cheap), putty (free software to access the console via RS232) and TFTP server (more free software to expose the correct files for the NVR to be able to download them over your network). Where did you get your unit from? I bought mine on aliexpress but the seller is no help. Once I got mine up and running again, I tried other updates, but all have the same effect - it feels like I have a unit that will not update for some reason, maybe it's not meant for the UK market and has been altered by the seller to accept this firmware only.

I live near Manchester so not local enough to help, and if it's the same as mine, even if you get it running, you can never upgrade it, and the existing early firmware is buggy.

I think when it is time I will order a NVR5416-4KS2, This because the 4 hdd version have 16 alarm inputs, and the 2 hdd version only 4..
I fear I will need more than 4..
This at BEC 428 euro. Much more expensive unfortunately.
This is very helpful.

I have been looking at the 52 vs 54 myself.

4K 16CH 1U ePoE NVR – Dahua North America

4K 16CH 1.5U ePoE NVR – Dahua North America

After reading your post, I checked the specs. You are right, the 54 has 16 alarm inputs. I don't know how many I will want, but it's good to try and have more possible inputs than less, if the cost is only a little more.

Yes I have both monitor and mouse plugged into it and exploring it.

But I have another issue which I just sent a message to Andy about. I brought two 5231 cameras and one of them is not accepting the default username and password. Even the log in menu looks different from my other 5231. The paper that came with it have the username and password as admin admin on both camera but one is not accepting it and warning me that it going to lock me out on two more tries ..

Bill
It all hooked together on my desk right now ... I am grabbing my other camera I got last week to make sure it working with default username and password too since I haven't tried powering it up yet.

Bill
What was the problem? How did you get it fixed?

Cross-posting this question in this thread too.

What are different alarm conditions to consider?

One NVR has a 4 channel alarm, another has a 16 channel alarm.

I don't know if 4 alarms is good, or more.

These are physical alarms, right? This involves hooking wires between the NVR and things.

I have discovered an issue with the NVR5216-4KS2 and email timestamps on IVS and Motion notifications. I had this last year but frankly was too busy to look into it and it ended when daylight savings time ended. This year once daylight savings time started up, it came back (for reference, I am in US Central Time). The emails I receive with screenshots contain the correct time in the "Alarm Start Time" text in the body of the email and image timestamp of the email (correctly adjusted for daylight savings time), however the actual mail message shows up in my inbox with a timestamp one hour ahead of the correct time. The odd thing is that I only notice this in using Mozilla Thunderbird for an email client. I get the correct timestamps everywhere in Mac Mail and iOS Mail on my phone. Initially I struck this up to be a Thunderbird bug but now I do not think so. Reviewing the email headers, all of the "Received:" and "Delivery-date:" headers are showing the correct daylight savings time offset of -500 for US Central Daylight Savings Time, however the "Date:" header shows a -600 which is standard central time, not daylight savings time. I believe the root of this is that the NVR is incorrectly still sending the email with the non-daylight savings time offset in the "Date:" header - and then the difference in mail clients I am seeing is that each of them keys the message timestamp off of a different header. @EMPIRETECANDY - Can you report this for us to Dahua to see if they can get this resolved in a future firmware? Or is there a newer firmware available that may have already addressed this?

@dzimm27 - there have long been issues with daylight savings time. A simple workaround is to just uncheck the daylight savings time option and then change your time zone twice a year.

Thanks for the reply. I get that is a workaround, but it is far from ideal. I'd be more tempted to switch email clients. The thing is - automatic DST switching works great for me everywhere in the NVR and cams but here. Well - one other location has issues - the Mac version of SmartPSS is all correct except for when exporting video, that is off by an hour during DST. In this case though, I believe I have identified the email header involved so hopefully that can lead to a fix. Should be rather simple and I am hoping Andy can pass this along to them.

@EMPIRETECANDY - Is there by chance a newer build of the Mac SmartPSS software on the horizon?

First, I just stumbled across this forum as I was researching Dahua NVRs. Whata great wealth of info on this forum and I have been trying to read as many threads as I can, but it is hard to get at all the info I need. I am in the US and was looking at Amcrest (they OEM Dahua) and was not impressed with the NVR selection. I am leaning toward the NVR5216-4KS2 from @EMPIRETECANDY and had a few questions, please bear with me as I am new to IP Cameras.

I do not need on-board POE as I picked up a Netgear GS724TPv2 which is a sweet switch. This will allow me to do some VLANs I have been wanting to do for a while now. I wanted a 16 channel NVR as I plan to grow into it after the initial 6-8 cameras.

I picked up some Amcrest cameras a while back to do some initial planning on cam style, placement and resolutions. Will these work on the Dahua non-logo NVR5216-4KS2 or will I lose motion detection and such?

Because of the 1-2 week lead time I was planning on getting the NVR to try for a bit with the Amcrest cameras and then maybe buy some Dahau or more Amcrest cams.

Since the NVR5216-4KS2 does not have POE how noising is the NVR itself? I was going to put it in a media cabinet that has some airflow, but don't want a loud fan distracting to people in the room.

Since it is running Linux, can I put like a Logitech wireless mouse to I can manage the DVR from across the room?

I see some links to firmware and the Smart PSS on this forum, but none of them works, where can I find Smart PSS?

How successful have folks been with adding non-Dahua cameras in general to these non-logo NVRs?

Thanks in advance for your help!
