Today, I spent about 4 hours trying to recover files from a hard drive that was pulled from a damaged laptop for a friend.

So far, I managed to recovered about 17GB worth of his family photos and I still have about 5GB to go. it was not an easy task considering how much damages the data had and i am doing this for him for free. Others would had charge him hundreds of dollars for this job.

Photo of hard drive pulled from laptop and plugged into adapter allowing me to try recover data from it.

Q,

Using a 2nd alias, I could register with ipcamtalk , and post 100 messages to become eligible.
Is stuffing the ballot box frowned upon?
I could enlist some Russians who are experienced in election meddling.

That would be doing a bad thing...not a good thing @Fastb...but frankly I’d make an exception for that subterfuge, simply to get this fuQin’ contest rollin’ on down the highway to Happy Town. :)

by the time you reach the magic number 2TB drives will be obsolete...:)
smiley20.gif Indeed! Yet somehow I believe that anything which is truly "free" is never obsolete. But it appears that we may have to end this contest early.

Just remember, Q, the road to hell is paved with good intentions and yours seem to be very good.

I don't think a 2TB drive will ever be obsolete. The way things are going it may be the right size for a Winduhhs boot drive in the not too distant future.

Haha I surely hope not. I've got to admit, I kind of miss the days when my boot drive was 2 TB. Then SSDs happened and I've been short on boot drive space ever since.

ssd keep droping...250 drives for 60, 1tb for 160, my 750gb is getting full......just looked up my first ssd purchase in 2011 (amazons history is great) paid 109 for a 64gb crucial...
also see I purchased this WD AV-GP drive ( a precursor to the wd purple) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0042AG9V8/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 in 2012. Its still kicking in a BI machine 6 years later.

I meant that Wnduhhs is getting so big as an OS, with all the crap they insist on supplying with their "service", that it'll take 2TB just to hold the OS.

Intel X25-M was my first SSD. Actually got two of them and ran them in RAID 0. This was in the middle of a supply shortage (it was the first really good consumer SSD) so prices were fairly elevated and Newegg was only selling them in bundles with other hardware. Fortunately the other hardware was "free" via the combo deal. The SSDs were long-since retired but I'm still using both of those computer cases today. LOVE having sturdy handles on top.

d@mn sorry I missed the contest! My nice deed is my parents live with me, we feed the kids friends supper regularly, wife and I did community free dinners once a month thru our previous church for years and all but one of our current pets are rescues. And as everyone that does a good deed knows, you aren't doing it for the free 2TB hard drive!

@awsum140 just dont install so much crap on your Windoze machine, bought a 500GB M.2 boot drive only to find out clean Windows 10 install was like 65GB. Would have been tight but, could have survived on 128GB boot, but those are so small they will be scarce soon.

@fenderman you saved money! Looked up my first SSD drive was in 2009, RiDATA 2.5" 64GB SATA II 3.0Gb MLC $150. It was for a gaming PC, killed that drive in 3 years.

@bp2008 that same brand makes the two different Mastercase cases I use, love the cases and they have the handles on top as well, these are plastic but seem sturdy enough.

My point is that I started with Winduhhs 3.0, which was probably less than 20MB or so of OS. Winduhhs 10 has bloated well past that, by a factor of about 100, and the trend for more bloat and inefficient code just seems to continue. Throw in the constant "improvements" and updates to the "service" that Winduhhs has become, and we all just love being "serviced", and it just keeps growing kind of like weeds in the yard.

Not a peep from @tangent...perhaps he is unable to summon his Solomanesque powers and chooses to lurk in the shadows. No worries bro, but I therefore exercise my prerogative to yet again change the rules of my contest and I declare the following two (2) winners (because helping strangers and children is especially commendable IMO)...
  1. @catcamstar >Post #6
  2. @c hris527 >Post #13
There were so many good posts to this topic it was hard to decide, and I honestly wish I had enough drives to give one to each of you. But I only have two. So please -- @catcamstar and @c hris527 -- please PM me your ship to address and I will send each of you a brand new WD 2GD Surveillance drive.
