I guess I should of worded it differently, I guess they both attract spiders but on the bullets the IR lights are wrapped around the lens so the spiders tend to make a web across all the lights, hens covering the camera lens. Where as the Turret the IR light is below the lens so the spiders don't tend to make a web that covers the lens. This is what I have been told anyway. Time will tell after I get my shiny new 4MP Turrets from milk.

My turrets attract spiders.... but probably because I've positioned them in corners!
Business? What business? Does not everyone have 1,100 cameras around their house? I'm just really into security... :laugh:
I work for a company with multiple locations, just shy of 100 now. I'm in charge of the surveillance we need at our locations, building the solutions and getting the software and hardware needed to make this all work smoothly. Started this about 4 years ago knowing nothing about cameras, but a ton about IT. This just became a new focus for me in IT along with everything else IT related. I have learned a ton, and am proud of the system and abilities we have now for sure. We installed them all, every single camera is installed and supported by us and we use no outside contractors at all. I'm involved in the installs when needed, and I have 5-6 field guys who also are able to do the work for us as needed, though they are not IT. I set everything up and send them out with everything plug and play to an extent and we get them all done one way or another!
I've got 7 55" TVs displaying video in the office here and we monitor the cameras in general 24/7 365 ourselves. I currently have 85 separate NVRs (I keep saying DVRs out of habit but yes, they are NVRs) which means 85 separate everything, with 10 more under construction now. Not every location has cameras yet, but pretty close!
As a note, I use only the bullets and disable the IR on them but the turrets seem to be better for spiders because they are flat, there is no place for a spider to spin a web in the open air. On the bullets there is the tiny hood, they make a web from the leading edge of the hood to the bottom of the camera and there is that little .5 inch air gap that they like and then your shot is ruined. On the turrets I might see a strand every now and again but they give up as there is no effective way to make a web other than maybe from the eave or whatever to the camera. Still more work in general for the spider!

Great, Well thats not promising news for me. I was told that these Turrets would cause me less trouble with spiders then regular domes or bullets. I personally like the look of the regular domes because people cant tell which way there are pointing or if the cameras are following them.
The IR only come on by default when it starts to get dark but yes you can change that setting to on or off in the web interface for these Hikvision cameras and no reboot required.
Thank you for all the great feedback, What NVR software/hardware are you using? Do any of these cameras record off premise to a remote NVR? if yes then what brand/model of NVR are you using? Also what resolution are you recording at for the off site cameras? I am using Synology Surveillance Station right now to record several cameras both on site and off site cameras and its working OK but not perfect so I am always looking for better ways to do things.

I have a new Hikvision camera that I want to install. So far I have plugged it to the router, changed the ihe ip-adress via the SADPTool, created an admin password and saved it all. (Everything seemes fine).
Then I try to log into the camera via a browser, using the address previously saved: 192.168.1.100, and the same password as saved via the SADPTool. But each time I get rejected with the message: "User name or password is incorrect. Please enter again."
If I go back to the SADPTool, I can modify things, enter password and save again, ok. But I still can not log into the camera via a webbrowser.
Any suggestions for how I might get the camera up and running?

does your camera have a reset button?
Dont use sadp to try and change passwords.

look inside (remove the dome and see if there is as reset button)...

I ran into the same issue with 3MP turret cam. THere is no reset button. I contacted the seller and they generated reset code to be used. Also contacted Hikvision, but it took them a week to respond with the reset code.
The attached image is to small, I cant read your settings. Please either post a larger image or post the settings. The IP address & subnet need to match your LAN settings. If the camera setting do match your LAN settings then I would factory reset the camera and start over.
I noticed that the 4MP is 16:9 by default, hence, less vertical field of view (it doesn't show the drain on the middle-bottom part). Is there a way to enable a 4:3 resolution on it to get back more vertical real estate on the field of view?So I've received my 4MP today. I'll post some comparisons and specs over the next few days. First a list of the two cams + config options:
3MP: DS-2CD2532F-IS (Firmware: V5.2.3 build 141024, Encoding: V5.0 build 140714)
4MP: DS-2CD2542FWD-IS (Firmware: V5.3.2 build 150603, Encoding: V7.0 build 150525)
The 4MP is a confirmed English cam. It has a full English sticker at the back and came in a retail (e.g., colored) box. According to the seller it's fully upgradeable for the future via official firmwares published by Hikvision. It cost me $195 including DHL shipping.
Video settings are at maximum for both, meaning:
- highest bitrate
- highest quality
- highest resolution
- highest framerate
- Iframe interval at 20
Image settings have been made equal on both:
- No image adjustments
- Exposure 1/30, gain 100
- Day setting
- No BLC area
- No WDR
- AWB1
- DNR off
Here are two day shots taken at ~15:30. The cars are approximately 10-12 meters away.

These are both snapshots taken directly from the camera. I'll post some evening/night shots when I get around to it.
I'm quite excited about the 4MP quality. There's a clear difference in day quality. License plates are readable on the 4MP (although blurred out for you guys), whereas on the 3MP they're barely readable.

P.S.
I also noticed that in the turrent version, the 2MP has a larger sensor than the 4MP (i.e. 1/2.8" vs 1.3.0" respectively). Also, based on the specs, the 2MP has an option to be run at 1280 x 960 or a 4:3 aspect ratio. Interesting.
