Wow, looks awsome. Which models do you have? For the LPR and the PTZ in the video....
The LPR's are Dahua HFW5241E-Z12E'S. There are now models out with the 1/1.8" sensor and if I was buying today those would be the ones I would get. The PTZ is a Dahua DH-SD5A425XA-HNR. On the LPR's, I run them in black and white 24/7. I have other cameras that cover those area in color.

Instead of using a thumb drive I have always uploaded the footage on dropbox and provided a link to the police via email.
I wondered about that. I have had folks send me pics in Dropbox, several years ago, but I have never done it. Is it expensive? How does it work? I've had the police ask me to email it, but the vids are too big.

If you push a lot of files around Dropbox can be good. If you don't it's wasted money. For free you get 2gb. Check them out for plan costs. I live by Dropbox for work. It's simple to create a folder, upload the media, create a link to share the folder, email the link to the recipient who can download the contents.

I've given LAPD many videos for years now and they use the Axon Citizen site to upload videos. They just send you a link, no login needed and upload the video. It's great because you don't lose any quality like YouTube when it compresses the video. Axon is the same company they use for body worn cameras and tasers.

Dropbox is the way to go. I have several hundred gigabytes stored with them for various things. I have a separate folder for just camera uploads I can link to others if I need to show them footage.

Update: The owner of the stolen truck received a call this morning at 3 AM that his truck was found in the City of Bell, California which is about 25 miles from where the truck was stolen. He was told that he could pick the truck up on Monday. No other information available at this time. Now Monday is Labor Day, so we shall see.

Ahhh.. yes... basically those in power of that City were so corrupt, even the California State came after them....

City of Bell scandal
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Robert Rizzo" redirects here. For the German musician, see Robert Hunecke-Rizzo.

The Bell scandal involved the misappropriation of public funds in Bell, California, United States, over a period of several years in the late 2000s. In July 2010, the Los Angeles Times published an investigative article on possible malfeasance in the neighboring city of Maywood, revealing that the city officials of Bell received salaries that were reported as the highest in the nation.

..

Bell, California, is a small suburb of Los Angeles that covers 2.5 square miles (6.5 km2), with a population of approximately 38,000.[10] It is one of the poorer cities in Los Angeles County,[11] with almost one in six residents lives below the poverty line.[12] In 2009, Bell's per capita income was about $24,800..

..
In 2005, a measure approved by Bell voters exempted the city from a state law enacted earlier that year which limited the salary of council members of general-law cities – cities without a charter of their own.

All five members of the Bell City Council signed a statement in favor of the "little-noticed city ballot measure", which converted Bell into a charter city and was "billed as one that would give the city more control," yet failed to mention that Bell became exempted from the salary regulations. The measure passed, 336 votes in favor and 54 against.[17]

The salaries and pensions scandal in Bell also brought into question the issue of voter fraud. In the 2005 election, fewer than 400 votes were cast in a special election that cleared the way for City Council members to dramatically boost their own salaries. In that election, more than half the votes cast were absentee ballots, the most vulnerable method to manipulate fraudulent votes.

..
One resident of Bell, on condition of anonymity, told the Los Angeles Times that he was assigned the chore of retrieving absentee ballots: "Our objective was to collect absentee ballots, and if they were not filled out, instruct them how to fill it out, and if not, fill it out for them", he said. It is estimated that less than 1% of registered voters actually showed up to cast their ballot.[2] It has been reported that some residents went to the polling place, only to find that their votes had already been cast.[18]
..
Documents released to the Times revealed that the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) knew four years previously that Rizzo had received a 47% pay increase to $442,000.
..
Marcia Fritz, who heads the California Foundation for Fiscal Responsibility stated that at age 62, when Rizzo could have begun receiving Social Security payments, his annual pension and benefits would have risen to $976,771, topping $1 million two years later. "This guy would be our first seven-figure retiree", said Fritz.[34]

As a LAUSD school district teacher my wife taught at their elementary schools. She was well aware of the corruption and I think new Rizzo's wife. I told her that his pickup truck was found in her old stomping grounds. :) She said the city is now 99% Hispanic. Matt200, you have good memory. ;)

Like Tucker always says with the slightest hint of sarcasm, "Diversity is our strength". Though, arguably, if they're 99% of any race, I suppose that should be seen as "lack of diversity". Oh, all the rules.

BTW, regarding the medium used to get video to the po-po.... What about the nearly-obsolete media of CDs? I know, it's on part with 8-track cassettes, but they're cheap, plentiful, and reasonably standardized... MY problem is, none of my PC (with the exception of one server in a closet) actually still have a CD drive.

I tried the CD option once and they couldn't open it on their system, despite it playing on 3 different players in my house...

Just reach out @Parley happy to help and we can put some time together.

For the camera buffs here is another view of the pickup truck being stolen. This video does confirm that there were 3 people involved. This camera is a Dahua 4MP PTZ camera. I probably need Wildcat to help me fine tune this camera for the night. Here is the data sheet for this camera.

Last time I handed over video was just a few months ago for a porch pirate.

Originally just gave them the clip of the guy pulling into the driveway of the homeowner grabbing package and driving off. And of course the LPR clip
(I record it to a clean thumb drive I supply, and hand it to them)

Detective came by a few days later and asked for ALL video i had, especially “continuous video” of the homeowner leaving and returning which turned out to be an hour long clip. This included the UPS truck delivering the package. I guess they wanted 100% certainty that the package was delivered and not disturbed until the bad guy arrived to snatch it, and/or to match time stamps with other activity in surrounding neighborhoods in this case.

I think more video is better, which is why we have so many cameras for the HOA, and depending on the specific crime, various factors outside of the immediate event may be important to LE

You are lucky in the USA to have a police force doing its job, here in France, they all sleep in police hotels, recently we had damage to a vehicle in the street, the neighbor filmed everything, he gave the tapes to the police, the police threatened to press charges against him because he was filming the public road !! Sad country France.

Upload to Youtube and email them the link, that's what I have done twice now.
This type of electronic transfer with youtube or dropbox s/b the perfered method to send video. It is a 2 way street with transferring through thumb drives. You could get virus from LEO drives, and they can get virus from other peoples drives. Most people/organizations have not educated themselves enough on security, and they probably never will.

Note I said I pull my own video and hand it to them on my new clean thumb drive. I never touch a drive given to me and they don’t touch my system. True there is risk on their end in this scenario.

Agree uploading to some 3rd party site would be a better way, but it fails chain of custody methods in many jurisdictions
