Multiple causes - US Chinese sanctions, Covid-19, demand, etcI understand that there is a chip shortage but it didn’t really explain why?
Think: Everyone wants "smart this and that" "IoT everywhere" ... fabs cost a lot to make.. massive pandemic issues on supply chain disruption... -> shortageI read that posted by Andy and I understand that there is a chip shortage but it didn’t really explain why? To me it sounded like the chip manufacturers were purposely holding onto and controlling the release of their chips in order to inflate prices?
consider adding Intel to your portfolio.Think: Everyone wants "smart this and that" "IoT everywhere" ... fabs cost a lot to make.. massive pandemic issues on supply chain disruption... -> shortage
Well, security should not wait. I went with Amcrest cameras instead of Hikvision. I can always change them when the prices come down.If you're non commercial just hold off buying until prices come down.

I've not known of the government doing anything that used common sense. Thus, they get hacked all the time.[Rant on] The government sanctions don't (or at least shouldn't) have anything to do with security and everything to do with politics.
If the government is installing CCTV cameras and giving them unfettered access to the internet, then they deserve to be hacked. While you can never underestimate the stupidity of people, this one takes the cake. There are plenty of ways to secure your network against intrusions (internal or external), and you would think any government network would be implementing these measures regardless of what devices they are putting on the network. In other words, if their networks can be compromised because they use Hikvison or Dahua cameras on them, they have bigger issues to worry about. [/Rant]
Exactly. Like the moron who does not know how to set up a firewall.[Rant on] The government sanctions don't (or at least shouldn't) have anything to do with security and everything to do with politics.

Capitalism is awesome. It is the only system that works and incredibly well. We cannot allow the government to control the means of production in any way shape or form. Nothing wrong with being rich. Every human is greedy. The rich are not your enemy. They spend, invest and assume risk that turns the wheels of the economy. If you dont want to support the chinese buy something made elsewhere there are options. What have you given up in the name of not buying from china? It's only like the screwed up Capitalism we have as a whole atm. Lets make everything where it's cheapest - in a communist hostile states country. Lets make them rich by doing so, transfer all our hi tech, and then let wonder why they have the money to build a powerful and hostile military. Answer is greed.
Until people realise that money isn't everything, these absurd situations will continue, whether they are communist cameras watchign the desks of the CIA or top secret engineering companies, or the rise of hostile countries generally. Rule one in any seige is you don't feed your enemy.
The wealthy seem to believe the answer is nuclear bunkers, until they emerge into a country burnt back to the dark agaes and where they have to become farmers because there's no-one left to do the work or anywhere to get the food from (which will all go past edible in their lifetimes anyway along with the fuel = no cars, planes or boats after a couple of years). Don't think they've planned for that one. Lets see how well Armani suits, Rolex and false nails go when on your knees digging the dirt. Greed causes short sightness of the cosnequences.
First, let me say that I believe that capitalism is the best economic structure. However it needs to have limits placed on it. Pure capitalism isn't good for the greater good IMHO. Pure capitalism drives companies to make the most money regardless of the way they do it or the consequences. It also tends to make companies have short time horizons and not care about long term effects. Heath, safety, long term environmental impact, etc. all suffer under pure capitalism. There is a fine line of government regulations that are beneficial to society and the greater good. Of course too much government regulation is bad too - hence the balancing act required.Capitalism is awesome. It is the only system that works and incredibly well.
