I assume you can't do any change-outs with the mini bullets but a 6mm would be just what I need as-is to look at an entry area.

Thanks to this thread and the in depth camera discussions and reviews I've just ordered 2 x Z5's and 2 x Z12's from Andy. (He's been so helpful and efficient.)
I bought these 4 cameras to cover my perimeter as per the diagram and distances that I mentioned in this thread here...

There may be better or more efficient options but as this is my first foray into ipcams and BI etc I'll consider it learning ;-)

Thanks again for all the valuable information posted here.

Question for you all, I cant seem to find the answer anywhere, I have 4 IPC-HDW5231RP-Z cameras from Andy @EMPIRETECANDY (Thanks andy!) but am wondering what to set them up as in Blue iris, I don't see them and not sure what family they fall under, I was guessing 4431, and they seem to work ok, but wondering if I am missing blue iris features or there is a better setting.

Thanks!

I updated @nayr's post with valid links, quoted below and pulled together links for some new products:
(expand the quoted section to see all the links)
Most of these cover the new 1/2.8" Sony Exmor-R Starlight (Eco Savvy) powered cameras that are considerably more affordable than the previous 1/1.9" Sony Exmor Starlight (Ultra) lineup. Most of the Eco Savvy 3.0 cameras street prices are very comparable to there non-starlight counterparts and totally worth the extra money spent given the performance gained.

I've already reviewed the performance of the:

Varifocals:
Ultra Varifocals:
  • Ultra Starlight Bullet w/SD, External Audio & Alarm (4.1mm-16.4mm) IPC-HFW8232E-Z
  • Ultra Starlight Dome w/SD, External Audio & Alarm (4.1mm-16.4mm) IPC-HDBW8232E-Z
  • Ultra WDR Bullet w/SD, External Audio & Alarm (2.7mm-12mm) IPC-HFW8231E-Z
  • Ultra WDR Dome w/SD, External Audio & Alarm (2.7mm-12mm) IPC-HDBW8231E-Z
  • Ultra WDR Z5 Bullet w/SD, External Audio & Alarm (7mm-35mm): IPC-HFW8231E-Z5
  • Ultra WDR Z5 IR Dome w/SD, External Audio & Alarm (7mm-35mm): IPC-HDBW8231E-Z5
Fixed Bullets:
Fixed Turrets:
Domes (not recommended outdoors):
PTZ and Others:
  • 30x Zoom Bullet (4.5mm-135mm) w/SD, External Audio & Alarm: SDZW2030S-N
  • Covert Pinhole Camera (2.8mm F2.4) w/SD, External Audio & Alarm: IPC-HUM8230-E1
  • CS Mount Box Camera (no lens) w/SD, External Audio & Alarm: IPC-HF5231E
  • 180 Degree Panoramic MultiSensor w/SD, External Audio & Alarm: IPC-PFW8601-A180
  • Black Face Lite PTZ 25x (4.8mm~120mm) w/SD, External Audio & Alarm: SD49225T-HN
  • Black Face Lite PTZ 12x (5.3mm~64mm) w/SD, External Audio & Alarm: SD49212T-HN
  • White Face Intelligent PTZ 30x (4.5mm~135mm) w/SD, External Audio & Alarm: SD6C230U-HNI
  • Black Face Intelligent PTZ 30x (4.5mm~135mm) w/SD, External Audio & Alarm: SD59230U-HNI
  • Black Face Intelligent PTZ 25x (4.8mm~120mm) w/SD, External Audio & Alarm: SD59225U-HNI
  • Ultra Starlight Dome PTZ 30x (6mm-180mm) w/SD, External Audio & Alarm: SD65F230F-HNI
  • Ultra Starlight Laser IR PTZ 40x (7.9-316mm) w/SD, External Audio & Alarm: SD6AL240-HNI
  • Ultra Starlight Laser IR PTZ 30x (6mm-180mm) w/SD, External Audio & Alarm: SD6AL230F-HNI
  • Ultra Starlight IR PTZ 30x (6mm-180mm) w/SD, External Audio & Alarm: SD6AE230F-HNI

plus more non-IR indoor dome PTZ's that are not appropriate for outdoor use and I cant imagine will be very popular here.
For people new to the video surveillance game, I strongly recommend the varifocal turret to start off with; that way when someone steals your stuff and you come to the realization that wide angle views are not all they are cracked up to be; you can zoom it without replacing the camera.. The varifocals are also the only fixed cams that provide up to 12mm optics..

Unless specified these are all international models and may be available in either PAL or NTSC formats (it makes no difference); english firmware should come from factory and they are firmware updatable.
New Additions:
Ultra
Ultra newest additions 4/2018. It appears the "ZE" doesn't mean ePoE in these models.
  • 2MP Starlight WDR (140dB) Box Network Camera IPC-HF8231F-E
  • 2MP Starlight WDR (140dB) IR Bullet Network Camera 7~35mm zoom lens IPC-HFW8231E-Z5E
  • 2MP Starlight IR Bullet Network Camera 4.1mm ~16.4mm zoom lens IPC-HFW8232E-ZE
  • 2MP Starlight IR Dome Network Camera 4.1mm ~16.4mm zoom lens IPC-HDBW8232E-ZE

Pro
Eco-savvy 3.0 ePoe

Lite PT(z)
  • 2MP 3x Starlight PTZ Network 2.7mm~8.1mm 3x zoom lens Camera SD12203T-GN
  • 2MP 3x Starlight IR PTZ Network Camera 2.7mm~8.1mm 3x zoom lens SD1A203T-GN

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and to CCTV. I've read this thread and around on the internet and I'm 99% certain that I would like a Dahua Starlight camera in a dome/turret format, like the
IPC-HDW5231R-Z. however I do not understand the difference between a motorised lens and a fixed lens, and how each would benefit my use case.

The motorized lense allows you to change your field of view from your camera interface, recorder or phone app. Fixed lense has no adjustments.

thank you, so it's a nice way to adjust the field of view when it's in situ, I like it.

Right. If you buy the fixed-lens version of the turret, you only get one of these three focal lengths: 2.8mm, 3.6mm, 6.0mm. With the varifocal, you can change the focal length between 2.77mm-12.0mm. Lets you get a precise field-of-view.

And if you're careful in your testing, you can use the varifocal camera to determine which fixed version you need for a location and save some money, about $50 per camera. I'm finding that I'll need a mix of 3.6 mm and 6 mm cameras. The varifocal I have now will go in a location that needs a longer lens than that.

normal models, firmware can't be updated, 2nd one is not IP one, it's CVI/Analog ones.
thanks, but when you say "normal models" does that mean that the only difference is that the firmware can't be updated? Or is there something else to it?

Which does it compare to the ones in the

or is it a totally different model? It looks cheap you see and it's my first foray

It's a totally different model, the 4433ca is a China region cam, and should be avoided. Can't update the firmware because the firmware has been hacked to english.
In your spoiler list, the closest thing to it would be the Dahua Starlight Fixed Lens Turret (IPC-HDW4231EM-AS)

thanks. Is the firmware often updated to include more stuff then?

No not really. It's mostly bug and security fixes.

If you buy a hacked china region camera, it's best not to update. You also may have problems using a dahua NVR to record the cameras.

And adding bugs sometimes!
