    Unhide Camera

I just create a group called "hidden" and put any camera, or camera clone, in that group that I don't want to always display on the main console view. When you switch to view that group all those cameras a right there. No need to disable them at all.

What is the best bang for the buck with these cheap eBay Dell systems?

I would allow up to 170 watts for a NVidia 1080 GPU to give yourself some overhead. It won't run anywhere near that most of the time but when processing motion detection for AI it will spike pretty high. There is no need for a GPU for video acceleration purposes. Since sub streams have been...

What is the best bang for the buck with these cheap eBay Dell systems?

Look in the Wiki, in the blue bar at the top of the page, using a real computer and not a phone or tablet. There are guides there to size hardware, disk space calculations based on resolution. Plan on enough internal space for at least two physical platter drives for video storage.

Low light - what to look for?

That's why I include decimal equivalents, for those of you that have zero experience with real firearms. Given the number of people that have either served in the Armed Forces, own firearms or shoot recreationally, well over 60% of the population, bullets make a reasonable means of comparison...

    2nd Amendment thread

I wouldn't, we pay the bills for the Brandon Administration after all is said and done, or is that a few generations down the road pay for it?

Lots of questions for soffit install

I don't bother with a PFA130 when soffit mounting. The facia is aluminum clad so I just bend it out of the way along a section long enough to get one piece of the soffit out, they may be stapled in place but if you pull the staples it'll slide right out. That gives lots of room to work getting...

    Broken Drill Bit Installing Doorbell

Drill more clearance holes in the ledger board, if that's possible, and work it out through that from the bottom using needle nose or regular vice grips. I sure wouldn't count on being able to snap it again, deliberately, trying to get it out without wrecking the trim in the process.

Ultra color night cameras for NVR5216-16P-4KS2?

The 4K-T is the current low light king, but it, too, needs some ambient light to produce color at night and it dos not see IR at all. Also be aware of the focus distance mentioned in the review...

New to site . Looking to upgrade camera setup

:welcome: Starting out the the 5442-ZE is probably the ultimate way to start. The only other camera that might be better is the 4K-X or 4K-T but you need some ambient light at night for them since they don't see IR.

    UK bans Hikvision cams

And none of our esteemed Governments, on either side of the pond, seem to have heard of firewalling the camera systems. Typical government waste and bloviating that results in nothing constructive.

Been here a while. Probably should say hello

If some bad guys got caught and taken off the street as a result of information those systems provided I'd call it a success.

A camera is not a PC. A camera requires an amplified microphone.

US bans approval of new technology from China's Huawei and ZTE for 'national security

Kind of ironic. It was just "turkey day". Turkeys puff out their chests and spread their fans trying to impress. It's obvious you're just being obtuse John.

    Pandemic threat? Anyone else concerned?

What's really "funny" is that after three friggin years there is still no study that proves any efficacy with masks, social distancing, lockdowns or any of the other draconian measures that are used to "flatten the curve". I do have a mask that I suspect does provide some protection. It's a 3M...

    If you

No single camera will do both jobs. LPR is a specialty and requires very specific settings, especially at night, I believe that any of the Dahua cameras will hold up with winds and dust although the faceplates may cloud over time due to dust abrasion but that is true of any camera.

Steal from vehicle CCTV footage - what went wrong?

The two things that I see as going wrong are forcing the cameras to remain in color and the fact that your subject is back lit. No amount of resolution can solve those two problems. Plus you might consider a longer focal length for the last camera in your posts, the one that provides the...

You need to use a computer, not a phone or tablet, to effectively use the WiKi. There is far more than Blue Iris information in there.

    Hello

:welcome: Be sure to have a long, slow, read of the material in the Wiki, in the blue bar at the top of the page. It will fill you in on IP cameras and give you a solid grounding in how to get the most out of any system you choose to build. Of course, feel free to ask questions here. We have...

    TiOC alarm outputs

Generally the alarm outputs are low current capable outputs. You are best off using them to drive a relay, with appropriate ratings on the contacts, to handle any load at all. If you use an optocoupled relay the loading on the camera is very minimal, as in microamps, and it will work over...

My DIY Alternative to Reolink's 180 Degree Camera

You do need to be aware that there can be problems between Reolink cameras and Blue Iris due to the way Reolink plays with frame, iframe and bit rates and that Reolink doesn't adhere to many standards that can cause problems. I'm not saying that they won't work but am saying that some are...

    Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone here on IPCT! Since I'm down with pneumonia we'll be staying home, but there will be deliveries of "care packages" to tide us over. We'll both miss being with family though, mine on Thanksgiving and the Mrs on Sunday, they're all in Long Island. Above all, enjoy...

Cam magically not reporting correct FPS/Key. Tried everything

While your PC may be "high powered" the CPU in the cameras, which is the critical point, are not high powered. Run 30Fp, maybe try 60F/ps. Have a good time. You're the one who said you dropped the frame rate and it magically lined up, 25F/ps, iframe 1.0. Have fun, you've got a camera with a...
