    Ubiquiti's AI Turret

With the S2 versions, the 5842 showed much better details when digitally zoomed. In one position I had it looking at a couple of water pressure gauges. With the 5442 I could see where the needle was at, with the 5842 I could read the numbers.

    Israel attacked by Hamas...

It's possible that both of those headlines could be true. If the US ship shot down the jet in the confusion of incoming missiles, Houthis would have created the situation and legitimately take credit for the downing. But when you can't believe the Houthis, US government, or the press, it's...

Poe to Poe Then wired connect to Wifi Extender and Ip Cam

568A does not switch polarity. 568B does not switch polarity. The only difference is swapping of the green and orange pairs. There is no electrical difference unless you get down to the AC effects of twist rate of the wires. They can be freely mixed and matched. Just need for each cable to...

    EmpireTech NV41AI-8P-4KH or NVR8CH-AI

Nominated for understatement of the year . To try for a useful comment, my 5-series NVR without internal POE has been 100% reliable running 24x7 for 7 years and 11-1/2 months. 8th birthday party is in a couple of weeks.

    EmpireTech NV41AI-8P-4KH or NVR8CH-AI

I seriously doubt that any of the NVRs being discussed use an Intel CPU. Too expensive and doesn't lend itself to a system on chip design. A reasonable guess is that it it's an ARM core, but there are others that would be in play for guessing. A higher end Dahua NVR (64/128 camera) does have...

    Notice the Amazon strike?

In addition to that, they spy and collect data on you. AWS is a HUGE part of the Internet and IMO could shut most of it down if they wanted to. The monster gets bigger, and we stand in line to feed it. Add to that we send gobs of money and most of our technology to China in order to get cheap...

    OMG Thermal!

The IVS triggers from Andy's thermal camera don't show up on my 5216-4ks2 NVR. It's just constant green bar. The triggers show up on the camera's SD card and BI. The record schedule for the cameras on the NVR is set to 24x7. Does this work ok for anybody else? Am I missing something obvious?

    US Elections (& Politics) :)

I think Ramaswamy could be a great house speaker. He seems to be able to convince people to think his way and they don't feel tricked or beat up afterward. He has a way of quietly hammering people with the truth.

    Pandemic threat? Anyone else concerned?

The article is an RFK hit piece, but with an opening line like this, it's hard to take it as anything but a joke. "The availability of safe, effective COVID vaccines less than a year into the pandemic marked a high point in the 300-year history of vaccination, seemingly heralding an age of...

    Issue with SmartPSS

I use a single monitor and smartPss does not close when I turn it off. Do you save the settings? Mine restores most of them on startup. For instance, the live view gets restored on restart. Mine does occasionally close itself randomly. It also has a memory leak and needs to be restarted...

    Feds cut interest rate again

Intuitively, I think that a whole lot of inflation hasn't bubbled through the system yet. Caused by covid related spending, shoveling money into wars, and shoveling money for illegals. (Plus now the "continuing resolution" which is sounding like mostly new spending). Common wisdom would be...

    Review: EmpireTech IPC-T58IR-ZE-S3 / Dahua 5842T-ZE-S3 - 8MP / 4K Turret Camera

At the fringes, the 5442 will show an identifiable image where the 5842 will show an unidentifiable blob. And when the 5442 is showing an unidentifiable blob, the 5842 won't know anything is is there at all.

    Review: EmpireTech IPC-T58IR-ZE-S3 / Dahua 5842T-ZE-S3 - 8MP / 4K Turret Camera

I ran a 5442 S2 and 5842 S2 side-by-side for a few weeks. I agree the 5842 was pretty good at night, but the 5442 still beat it. It's a pretty simple tradeoff of prioritizing day performance vs. night performance. When you're greedy like me it's a tough choice.

    Drone swarms in the northeast?

We're being totally BSed by the government again. There have to be multiple aircraft in government agencies that could follow one of these drones back to its landing or crash site.

IPC-T5442T-ZE best firmware for animal detection?

Sounds to me like this is an S2 camera. If it is, there is no firmware version for the T5442T-ZE that's worth a hoot for animal detection. The IVS object filters cannot be turned off, even though the UI says they can. IVS will trigger only on what it thinks are humans or vehicles. There are...

Quantum Computing - RIP Moore's Law

I doubt that Murphy's Law will ever die, be thwarted, or repealed. As mankind gets dumber and dumber we will, if anything, get bit by it more and more. Moore's law is strictly about transistor count. Does this quantum chip have a breakthrough transistor count? I really don't know but have...
