BI on PC or dedicated NVR

LOL !! BTW, is i5 sufficient for 11 cam streams at 15fps? Saw a few i7’s 8th gen on eBay for around $500+ It would be another $100 to install the 4TB purple drive Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

BI on PC or dedicated NVR

awesome feedback. BI it is. I will shop for a low profile desktop, preferably i7. I used to do PC builds so feel very comfortable with assembling one, if needed. Planning on putting two NICs to keep the cam traffic separated.

BI on PC or dedicated NVR

PC with BI running or 16 channel Dahua NVR? From cost perspectives, I would think they are both pretty comparable.... I would guess that BI is probably more feature and functionality rich and can offer more than NVR...but I may be dead wrong... Any thoughts, amigos ?

    I want the best Dahua

@tangent - can you please elaborate why in your opinion Synology is a poor choice for recording the cameras? I was planning on buying a refurb i5 or i7 desktop to run Blue Iris then routing the video streams from the 10 cameras to my synology NAS 5 bay unit. I have no intentions of using...

pre made cables for PoE cams

@TonyR and @mat200 thanks for your feedback. As for me, i was not planning to run it permanently, just a temporary run, just snake it on the floor from the garage to, say back of the house. 100ft should be long enough, if not, I'll put the RJ45 jointer in between and install the 2nd cable to get...

pre made cables for PoE cams

Those were my exact my thoughts as well. These will be great for when testing a cam on a 2 x 4 and bucket full of rocks. 100ft is long enough to reach my poe switch in the garage from practically anywhere around my house.

    BI licensing

@fenderman - thank you for this info. In reading some general threads on BI, seems a lot of folks have reported high cpu utilization, at least initially. Changing the settings where it writes directly to disk seems to help that. I have yet to process even one camera through BI on PC so won't...

    BI licensing

I have an unused i5 based laptop that I plan to re-purpose temporarily for BI use. This is a stepping stone install while I get the funds to build an i7 based small, dedicated BI machine. Ultimately, I will have 7 -10 cams so decided to go with an i7cpu. question: will there be a concern (or...

    ubiquiti G3 micro

Hey Happy Monday folks !! Over the weekend, I came across a small IP cam by ubiquiti, the G3 micro. Its a very small footprint cam that is 1080 @ 30fps. Have any of you good folks looked into it and have any feedback/comments? I did see a youtube video where the person compared it to the...

@mat200 - OMG (without trying to sound like teen girl - LOL). Guess I need to get out more because I was not aware of these 'dual' feed cams. Thank you SO much for this info. I am reading up on @looney2ns review and learning more about that type of cam. I can clearly see it for that front...

    smallest dahua (or comparable) cam

Hey All, I like the dahua starlight turret cams. Along those same lines, which dahua or a comparable brand would be the smallest cam I can use for a front door, under the eaves area ? Open to suggestions and feedback, what is everyone here using for that application. I prefer not to use a...

pre made cables for PoE cams

@bp2008 - thanks for the reply. I was not familiar or aware of CCA, will look to avoid that when ordering. Noted, regarding the AC wiring, right angles as well as looking for shielded. Since I will not be terminating my own cables this time around, I can at least ensure the recommendations...

pre made cables for PoE cams

Greeting folks !! Those, the purists will always prefer to go the custom route, however, those, like myself with limited time might be looking for an express method for their install. So, here's the question, my friends... I am looking to buy 75' - 100' ft lengths pre-made cables...

internet cable - how to protect ?

You are right to a point... All the talk for a while now has been about the cloud. Majority of DIY security solutions are internet based, hence the need to protect your exposed cable. Home automation that ties into security (windows / garage sensors) all rely on the internet. If a person today...

internet cable - how to protect ?

@Mr_D -last night, I took a closer look at the cable, and it resembles your installation. internet cable - how to protect ?

Hey folks, perhaps off topic to cams, however, somewhat relevant to security... I have around 4ft of exposed internet coax cable that comes from the provider into my house. The exposed cable is on stucco sidewall of the garage. I rely a lot on home automation and if it was disrupted, none of...
