The red outline appears when motion is detected not during continuous recording. The little red icon at the top left of each camera window indicates recording when in continuous recording mode or when triggered.
Have a look at the Cliff Notes in the Wiki at the top of the page, in the blue title bar. Use a real computer and not a smart(?) phone.
If it is still broke after 2 days start over in very small steps.
1) delete all cameras.
2) add all cameras back in with continuous recording. Only one profile, no motion detection.
3) let it run for 2 days, is it continuously recording, if not stop and report back
4) verify that it is recording properly by playing back multiple different time and cameras.
4) add motion detection on the cameras.
5) let it run for 2 days, see it it is generation motion detection alerts
6) add your profiles test it...
