CCCH Hikvisions

There has been alot of discussion about where to buy Hikvision IP Cams and what to look for in the serial # and box etc. in order to verify you have an upgradable version (CCWR vs CCCH).

I have a situation where I purchased multiple cams from different vendors (not important where - starts with a ends with n)

Some are CCCH and some are CCWR. What is the harm in keeping the CCCH if they work as long as I do not upgrade the firmware?
If I do not upgrade the firmware will they continue to work with Blue Iris?

The reason I ask is, being totally new at this, I installed the cams and then read about the CCCH vs. CCWR after they were installed. Since time is precious, If I can use the CCCH cams and just not upgrade, and continue to use them with BI for years to come I would prefer not to take them down and attempt to get multiple seller's to honor a return.

That being said, I have put countless hours into this system and I would rather spend more time and energy to make sure it works properly than get lazy and gamble.

I hope the answers to this thread help other Hikvision users in the future. I sure wish I knew what I know now 6 months ago...
 
I still have CCCH cameras on my system. The only reason I don't recommend them any more is because the availability isn't what it used to be and the local prices and support are much cheaper and better than they used to be.

Mine are connected to an NVR so I don't care for updating the firmware. My advice is if you are happy with the price you paid then stick. If you thought you were getting WR then send it back (mainly because I hate dishonest sellers!).

I am generally happy with the price esp on the bullets. The 2332's were same price as CCWR.

IS it possible that they will not work with Blue Iris, and has anyone ever noticed or heard of the CCCH cams having a worse image quality? or are they the same components as CCWR?

If you are using them with blue iris you will have no issues. You never need to update the firmware if you dont want to.
 
I could never understand why people always want the latest update when it many cases the only improvement if for the seller. If it ain't broke don't fix it. I have 4 cameras outside from Foscam that I have done nothing with and flawless up to -43 so far for over 5 years , I do love the Hik's though inside for now.
 
It's normally good practice to keep the firmware updated - big fixes, feature improvements and security fixes (this is a potentially Internet connected device after all).

It's just a shame Hikvision have put so much effort in the last year or more into market control measures rather than the above. So now the advice has to be leave it alone if it works. I wonder if Hikvision considers the harm it's doing to it's own brand in it's efforts to charge much more abroad (via distributors) for most of it's product range than at home.

While I do agree with that, the other problem with Hikvision is sometimes they take away functionality or introduce a lot of bugs. They really should test their firmware before releasing it, it's ridiculous.

Check out the serial number of the camera for the characters above.
CH=China, WR=World region.

I have two CCCH cameras 2132 fis and 3132 as far as quality of image I cannot compare to CCWR as I dont own any but, compared to say my old 18905 foscams I really feel they are only slightly better. The old Foscams are 640 and these are suppose to be 3 mp and I would call BS on that. I know when I read these tid bits I always like to know where the person bought them and I got mine from XiRay on Ebay. Now having said that I just ordered two more a turret and another 2132fis. I will be installing the dome 2132fis all inside the house and will be adding a mic, the turret I want to try on driveway.

There must be something wrong if you feel there's only a small difference between 640x480 and 2048x1536.. some picture comparisons would help to understand. My guess is the Hikvisions have a much wider FOV. There can be 2 benefits from high resolution, higher pixel density for better image quality or being able to see more.

Yeah, he is either viewing the substream or set the bitrate on the main REALLY low.
Also as you point out the viewing angle of the vga foscams was generally 50-60 degrees. Regardless, the difference is dramatic.

I will post some once I figure out how too ? I have the 3mp on highest settings at 20 fps, I will admit they are an upgrade as far as wide angel but I went with 2.8 on the new camera and on the Foscam all 4 mm. Really though the new Hiks are better and since they were same price but 5 years apart I would have imagined there would not even be a close comparison. Who knows though maybe my Hiks are made in someones basement and a Hikvision sticker how would I know.

They are NOT close in comparison. If you think they are something is VERY wrong with your setup.
You also cannot directly compare 4mm foscam to 4mm hikvision (i understand you have 2.8) but the foscam users a narrow viewing angle to produce a higher pixel density.
A bit of research shows that the 4mm foscam 18905 has a 42 degree viewing angle. Which is about half of what a 4mm hikvision would have and even much less than a 2.8mm hikvision.
The effective pixel density difference is only about 20 percent because of the huge viewing angle discrepancy. So there is no issue with the hikvision its just that you are comparing apples to oranges. Put a 6mm lens on the hikvision and that would be a proper comparison.

Alt-PrintScreen in the browser, paste into MSPaint, crop as needed and save as JPEG is pretty simple.
I think we'll be fascinated to see why you believe an old Foscam VGA image quality is similar to a Hikvision DS-2CD2132 HD image.
You may find out something to your advantage.
