CPU running at 100%?

So uninstalled Deepstack AI thinking maybe that was causing an issue, but ever since I added 2 additional cameras to my Dell 3620 Precision tower (i7-6600 with 32GB of RAM), as soon as I launch BI the CPU jumps to 100%, then stays from 95% to 100%.

Any ideas why that would happen? I'm only at 3 cameras in total, all with continuous recording.

I deleted the two new cameras I added (one being the same Hikvision ColorVu DS-2CD2347G1-LU that I already had setup and the other is a Dahua 5442), CPU usage drops to around 15-20%. Hmm.

Tried just duplicating the first camera 2 times for a total of 3 cameras, and CPU jumps to 70%.

Something seems odd.

are you running in demo mode? Did you read the wiki on optimizing blue iris, most importantly using direct to disk.

Wow, I missed that wiki section altogether, just set it up using the BlueIris videos and either that wasn't in there or maybe I missed it in the setup. That was definitely it!

Will go through the rest of the wikis, thanks a ton Fenderman.

Hmmm... working on the substream part. Found this:

Not sure if "Image Format" should be changed. Adjusted this in the config section accordingly:

But I can't seem to find where one changes the resolution of the substream? Thought I saw it somewhere when I was setting up the camera. It seems to be on a low setting based on the below in the General tab, but I can't locate where that setting is.

Don’t use sub streams it’s a new feature and not 100 percent. You have a low load.

You set the substream enabled and properties within the cam itself.
Thanks, literally just figured that out as well when I reread the doc.

I previously setup 5 of my 8 cameras using Deepstack AI and AI tool, my CPU usage jumped from 20% to 99%, mostly over 96%, so I disabled all the AI cameras and DeepStack AI/Tool, the CPU usage went back to normal, 18%-21%, I don't know what the issue is, maybe my computer is not new enough, I'm using i7-4790k with 16gb ram. This is my temperary solution, I still need to find out the real solution.

Does setting the cameras themselves (in their own GUI) to h265 help at all with BlueIris? I'm running around 30% making the changes in the Wiki doc with the below cameras:

Curious if I can do a lot better, since using ALPR takes upwards of 30-35% under load, and then adding in Deepstack AI to several of the above cameras causes CPU to hit 100%.

You could try sub streams, that brings CPU usage down.

Are you running DeepQuest within Docker? I too had my CPU usage hit 100% when I ran DeepQuest for Windows.

I would recommend thata you set all your frame rates to 15 and set your iframe to 15 for a start. This will set the key value to 1. For surveillance you do not need more that 15 FPS.

Also another thing to look at is storage.
Provide a screen shot of the Blue iris status (lighting bolt graph) clip storage tab.

Your 2Mp cam is pulling a high bit rate?

It's my LPR.

Thanks will have a look.

Re: Frame rates, you mean enter them in BI as 15 and in the camera's GUI's 15 for both that and iFrame?

I do need to add another 3TB drive shortly.

The statement "as I launch BI the CPU jumps to 100%, ", Are you running BI a service ? By launch do you mean the user interface with the cameras being displayed ?

Storage looks good. Very good on the free space. If it is not already configured that way, you should only be using the NEW folder, the STORED folder should have the size set to zero.

The frame rate changes need to be made in the Camera, not in BI.

Have you read the the wiki on cpu. Optimizing Blue Iris's CPU Usage

A screen shots
1) windows task manager process tab sorted by memory (most at the top), Must contain, memory, disk, network, GPU, GPU engine columns
2) windows task manager performance, GPU

So had some issues yesterday and decided to uninstall everything and start from scratch, and made sure I did almost everything in the wiki; set all my cams except for my LPR to 15 FPS / iframe.

  • I also picked up a used GeForce GTX 1050 to help with alprd (not sure if it can also help with BI .... and I've never understood what happens when the PC has it's own internal Intel GPU and an Nvidia one, i.e., do I need to shut anything off on the Intel one?).
  • I did not use substreams per Fenderman's message above that it's quite unstable right now in the newest BI.
  • You mention above "only" using the "New" folder. The setup video I watched suggested using the New folder for say 7 days, then moving things into a storage folder. I also inserted my 2nd 3TB Purple drive, and wanted to use that. Is the best way then to just set up a "New" directory on each with say a 21 day hold period and 2200GB size, then maybe put half the cameras on one of the drives and half on the other?
  • There is also a default Alerts 1GB 7 day limit folder
% CPU still feels high for the number of cameras? I.e., around 35 - 45% is where it hovers for BI. I.e., when I look at other 6700's here... Blue Iris Update Helper

Screen shots below. Anything looks like it needs improving?

Not sure why the Dahua Backyard cam has a 0.5 key?

I don't think you can do it like you want. You specify a "New" and a "Stored". Once New is full (to your designated amount) AND/OR it reaches the maximum amount of days you want to have clips saved, it rolls it over to stored. Here is how I have "New" and "Stored" setup one one of my BI machines. I don't limit it by age. Only by storage amount.

I can't help you with any of the GPU stuff since I don't use them for BI or LPR.

Edit: Actually looking through my BI it appears that you can, in fact, select folders to record for specific cameras. I didn't even know that! I'll have to check that it. Maybe disregard what I said above if that is the case. :)

Yeah, I currently have it set so that new save clips for 21 days and I set the storage max to 2500 (ignore the 1500 in the shot above). After which it moves to my second drive which I've set as "Store", and after 21 days/2500GB it just deletes everything.

You don't have to check the "Limit Clip Age" if you don't want to. I just let mine all fill up and delete to make space as needed. No day limit.

Also it appears you can select the folder for the individual camera that you want BI to record into. Just go into each camera setting and select the folder you want to use. It will then use the Global rule for deleting/moving after that.
