Dahua 2MP Starlight Lineup

Today I opened up a IPC-HDW4231EM-AS to install mirco SD card. I couldn't find a card slot anywhere in that camera.

Have anyone seen a card slot on the IPC-HDW4231EM-AS which is the fixed turret camera? I look up the specs on the Dahua website and it did state that this model support mirco SD card.

It's probably similar to the varifocal, see pics in the first post: Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z) if you can't find it post pictures after you crack it open.
Remember the fixed cameras have a much smaller aperture than the varifocal. I'd pay extra for the varifocal next time.

take those screws out holding the lens down and pull it back; sometimes they are quite hidden and Ive had to fully disassemble some cameras to find waldo.

try to leave all the wiring plugged in, they are far too easy to damage by unplugging

Not similar at all, the fixed turret housing is a lot smaller than the varifocal turret.

Here a photo. I already looked underneath that circuit board and I can see clearly that there is no card slot at all with my jewerler magnifying glass.View attachment 15176
You probably need to take it apart more, but before you do make sure it isn't underneath the black circuit board near an edge where it's actually accessible.

I wonder how long it will be until the IPC-HFW8231E-Z5 shows up on AliExpress?

i see i didnt open the pdf
so one is 0.005Lux 0.006Lux am i missing something else

The Ultra is an UltraWDR version, it has 140dB WDR (instead of 120dB) and SSA (a form of AutoWDR)..

The DSP on the UltraWDR give it a slightly better lux rating.. its the same sensor (IMX291) I believe.

Yeah the ultra is only .001 lux different, should be interesting to see if it makes a difference, I do like the idea of a 35mm though for plate reading.
There's no standardization to how the companies come up with their lux ratings, but the same company is at least usually fairly consistent. Comparing lux ratings from one brand to the next however is quite difficult.

Dahua at least gives you lux ratings based off the actual optics they install; many will list specs for like F1.2 then give you a F2 lens.. greatly inflating the actual capabilities

but your right; hard to cross compare.. but for comparing within Dahua its pretty solid refrence from what Ive been testing..

When Dahua and Hikvision use the same sensors the difference in quality is negligible, so if you can find a matching Hik variant and see what it reports to get an idea of the offset between there testing equipment and setup... but your getting into voodoo and not hard numbers.

The 5231 has higher zoom offered (12mm) so its going to be more focused to try to get distance..

try forcing the cameras to the same exposure settings instead of leaving em both on auto.

you also pointed both cameras far too down, aim them up and let that IR spread out instead of splashing on the ground and messing w/exposure.. SmartIR might not even be allowing the varifocal to crank up to full power.

no thats fine, what your seeing is the AutoIris closing off trying to keep the IR from whiting out the image.. It'll be very usefull the front door to keep people's faces from whiting out, it'll darken the rest of the image.. you can see the effect in one of my original videos.. very good to have next to the front door.. just dont install the camera too high.

Remember looking at grass is not a test, faces in motion are what you should be testing with.. if the Varifocal is running a higher shutter speed right now it'll be lest blurry at night.

Force Exposure to 1/30s or 1/60s, No Backlight, SmartIR Off and Manually Set to Maximum or turned off entirely.. (off will compare the sensors outright w/out any variations in the illuminators)

yeah under storage you needa format it

move that bike out of the way reflectors wont be helping anything, or turn off IR

still looks like you cant get the IRIS to open up all the way on the Varifocal
