I am seriously considering the SD6AL830V-HNI
Was recently robbed of my firepit insert (the one in my photo) and am putting up 20 cams around the house and one at the mouth of the only street allowing access into our neighborhood (still my property). I am really interested in the SVI and catching license plates/drivers.

I am also looking at this monster: 7K (30 MP) HD Pro Cameras | Avigilon -
@SirAce135 Sure you are. You running a casino over there, next to that fire pit insert? A gate would be cheaper.

The single Avigilon solution you list above will run you about 10-12K. Their previous 24MP Sony sensor alone is $3k, without any camera around it, again for just the sensor. Add the newest 30 MP, a body and lens around it and you're in specialized commercial situation. That would be the camera, proprietary software and a proprietary NVR with many TB to handle the 30 MP bandwidth at H.264. Add a $1500 SD6AL830V-HNI, and 19+ cameras, equipment, setup, install and support, and you're approaching 25-30K all in, to protect a fire pit insert (get the gate). If you (or your wife) feel safe with 20+ cams, and have the means to spend 30+K on a system that makes you feel that way, and would rival a casino, have at it. Otherwise I call BS, and this is a bit of grandstanding. People with the means to afford such systems and installs don't peruse these forums. They hire professionals to make it happen, don't ask how much it is, nor brag about it.

If I'm wrong, my apologies and best of luck with your system. I'd love to see example footage of either high end camera, or your 20 camera matrix. I put it all on red.....

Wow, I have spent a long time reading the forums and decided to recently join and chat.

I can link you to my posts and send you the police report for the theft as well as show you my invoices for the 15 camera's I have already purchased 3 of which I just purchased from Andy this morning upon the recommendation of these forums. Or the invoice for the 3,000+ ft of Cat6a, 10GBASE-T switch, and Synology RS4017xs+ I just ordered.

But I honestly feel I shouldn't have to and I am surprised at being treated this way. I really have seen a great community here prior to this.

I am not trying to grand stand, I do have an open quote from Andy on the SD6AL830V-HN. Our community is actually pitching in to get this neighborhood access point camera. I was just researching what is overkill and what is just right. I honestly wished to hear everyone's opinion and see test footage.
I saw it listed on ebay here: Avigilon 30L-H4PRO-B Camera | eBay
and figured $5,000 plus a few other expenses would not be a huge investment split up by our neighborhood.
I didn't realize it would require specialized infrastructure beyond network throughput and network storage.

P.S. I also am getting quotes on 6 foot tall 100 foot wide stone walls and rod iron motorized gates to be put in.

Sorry, feeling a little salty today. I believe you. I don't need links, an invoice or a police report. We've all been violated before, one way or another.

Bang on.

Its all good man, we all have our salty days. It happens to the best of us.

Thank you for your contributions to the community. I'm sure almost 600 likes and 400+ posts doesn't happen overnight.

I'm hoping someone chimes in about the SD6AL830V though.

I have the SDAE830v and I can tell you it is my last choice of any of my ultra Dahua PTZ's.
It just doesn't have the focus at full zoom and slow to focus especially at night.

I think the laser is overkill for the extra price as the LED's go as far as the zoom can see..

I've been interested in a PTZ with auto tracking and this forum seems to be the best place for discussions, I'm wondering if it's worth getting a PTZ w/ auto tracking for my needs or if I'd be better off with a fixed mount with optical zoom.

Goals:
- Capture license plates from at least 80 feet away and up to 150 feet would be ideal.
- Capture individuals and to at least be able to recognize their identifying characteristics (sex, build, clothing color, ethnicity, general face shape) from at least 60 feet away and up to 120 feet.
- To be able to manually zoom in and capture details when needed would be a nice bonus, but not necessary

Environment:
- End of a circle street, pointing towards the road, so not a whole lot of horizontal distance to cover. I'm considering a ~40 degree horizontal field of view at 100 feet away if fixed.
- Critical areas of the property will already be monitored by fixed cameras without zoom, so an additional camera is intended to capture the activities in the road that leads to the property.

Questions:
- Should I consider going with a PTZ with auto tracking, a PTZ without auto tracking that defaults to a key position, or one (maybe two) fixed cameras with optical zoom focused on the desired area?
- Budget-wise I'm considering up to ~$500-600 for this goal, I have a Dahua NVR with some available ports already, what's a good camera to consider? Is it worth going with another brand like Hikvision?
- I've found some generic ONVIF cameras with auto tracking for around $200-250 range, example here, has anyone used these? Are they worth it? Would I be better off just paying more for a dahua?

Auto-tracking will frustrate you at that price range (I'm assuming the $1,000US+ cams have better autotracking) - I have 2 sub $650 autotracking Dahua's and it's hit and miss. Sometimes I get great autotracking and I think that everything's perfect and the next one goes bonkers by overshooting the object. I've resorted to using spotter cams to move the PTZ to a preset location. My SD59225U-HNI will track my cat on the driveway 50' away but then not track me walking the same path later on. My SD6CE225U-HNI can be great but then will overshoot moving objects. Can be really frustrating when you look for the great video capture to see that the cam moved in a 180 degree range for no apparent reason.

Using spotter cams has really made my PTZ's more useful - I still let them autotrack (for now) when the spotter cam sends them to a preset.

Great response, thanks! Yeah I'm concerned that my budget would be better spent in other ways since it is kind of low for autotracking.

I've seen a demo somewhere that shows what I believe is this "spotter" method you mentioned, can you please briefly describe how it works? If it works the way I'm assuming I think it might be ideal for my needs and superior to auto tracking on a budget

Questions:
  • Is a "spotter" camera able to trigger an event to move another PTZ cam to a specific pre-set position?
  • Does it support multiple triggers for each spotter camera? (Example: If a spotter sees motion at the top-right of it's view can it trigger a PTZ to go to one pre-set position, but if motion is detected in the bottom-left is it able to trigger another pre-set position on the same PTZ)?
  • I have two fixed Dahua cameras in the same area where I plan to put the PTZ, and a Dahua NVR, do you think they'd be compatible for "spotting" (I can post the model numbers if needed)? does the PTZ also need to be Dahua?
  • Are there specific makes/models needed for a camera to qualify as a "Spotter" or a PTZ responder? Is there a feature name I should look for when shopping around?
  • Any resources / posts I should look at to get more info?

For LPR duties, I would suggest a dedicated camera only for that purpose. PTZ at these lower prices are a toy for us, or a gimmick.
Maybe if you set it up with IVS(I haven't yet), it may work better.
