From the picture it looks to me like you're trying to use only one of the two pieces that make up the cable end of the boot. The piece in your picture screws onto the back of the other larger piece to snug up the seal around the cable. The actual seal and bayonet connector to the camera cable is in the other piece. Of course, to add the other piece you'll have to cut the rj45 off first :-(

RIGHT you are. I can't believe I managed to NOT use all the parts for these things. I'll snip off the RJ45 end and crimp a new one on with all the parts. Derp.

For all the work of putting on an RJ45, it really fries me when I have to cut one off. FYI, if you need to just do a cable splice, there are weather protected F-F connectors similar to the camera connector that have holes big enough for the RJ45 to pass through, plus a split gasket, so you don't have to redo the RJ45. Here's an example Amazon.com: SMAKN® Ip67 M25 Waterproof Rj45 Coupler, Female to Female, Shielded, Field Installable: Electronics . The link is just to show the picture. The price is outrageous and I got mine from an ebay seller.

That's pretty slick. Although pricey for a single connector.

I am not worried about cutting off the RJ45. I've got a bag of RJ45 connectors and a crimper. This is just bulk Cat6 I ran to the install location and crimped a connector onto. I know technically you're not supposed to crimp connectors onto solid wire, but its not like this is going to be moved around a lot, so it should be good.

The reason you shouldn't use solid core as a patch cable is because the wire can break from too much movement. There is no issue whatsoever with Crimping rj45s on solid core, it's actually preferred.

Sounds right. Thanks for clarifying.

I really should have just ordered another camera and got the junction boxes from Andy. B&H hasn't even processed my order yet a week later.

I would guess it showed as "Special Order" on the B&H Site. If it showed In Stock, I'd give them a call.
They all showed as in stock. I figured a couple days is reasonable to process the order. I dropped them a line. Will see what is up.

Great info: Same nvr, same firmware, same behavior. I loaded the 2.460.0002.2 pal firmware into the camera and it didn't fix anything. The upgrade went smoothly, all of my configuration settings appear to be unchanged, and the camera is now pal-only. I did have to reinstall the web components. Using the OSD, when first trying to access the IVS configuration I get the message "channel 6 does not support configuration search or modification", and none of the settings are usable. If I select a different camera where IVS setup works ok, then reselect the problem camera, the settings begin to work. Existing rules set up directly on the camera are not shown. It will let me set up a new rule, act like all is good, but when I go direct to the camera the new rule isn't there. Since my chinese market cameras work ok with the IVS setup, I'm guessing the bug is in the camera as opposed to the nvr.

nayr, I can't find where to schedule the NVR recording via smartPss. Where do I look?

I've just run into the same problem, cannot setup IVS on this camera thru my 5208 NVR. Setup went fine on 4 other Dahua cams but I get the " does not support configuration search or modification" on the starlight.
I've been messaging Andy about another order but I recently discovered IVS and I like it!

And make sure you use the correct RJ45. They are different for solid vs. stranded wire.

That's the 3rd report of this for the starlight cameras and 52xx nvr. I've forwarded the info to Andy and he will hopefully be able to provide some feedback.
