Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

In this case it would be:
equivMM = (12mm-2.7mm)/1400*currentSetting+2.7mm
Set it to zero and you get 2.7mm set it to 1400 and you get 12mm.
algebra really isn't that hard.

I decided to add this to the Cliff Notes, since you were kind enough to provide the equation. I did have to assimilate it into an "Algebra for Dummies" format, since it took me awhile to figure it out; I failed Algebra in freshman year. :smash:

Just bought one of these to add to a Lorex system (the Costco 4k deal). The camera is set up and working on the system but I'm having two issues with it.

First, when looking at the live view, anything smaller than 2x2 mode and the camera will not display. It displays fine as a singular camera, in 2x2 or as the large view in the 7+1 mode but anything else just shows black?

Second, it has no issues switching to night mode but will not automatically switch back. If forced into day mode it will stay in day mode when switched back to auto though. I have played with the sensitivity setting to no avail. The camera is on a porch under an overhang but it still should be getting enough light to trigger day mode. I believe it has the latest firmware on it, 2.622.0000000.18.R.

Has anyone else experienced these issues or have any ideas?

Are all of your soffits hollow from inside or a solid chunk of wood?

Do you have a substream enabled in the camera? I believe that some NVR's, when a grid gets smaller, it switches from the main stream to the substream. Or I could be all wet. ;)

Substream is enabled. It has two different resolution options and I selected both to see if it just couldn't downsize one appropriately but still wouldn't display.

You looking within the NVR or lorex software on pc or browser? Try the different options and see if it's the NVR.

So does this camera not support MJPEG like the older models?

I need to simulcast to the NVR and to my home automation system - but the HA system only supports MJPEG. So a perfect camera would be sending out 265 and be hosting MJPEG at a static URL.

Maybe read the spec sheet.

Well. I did when I first saw this review.

After some heavy googling it seems like they may have removed the feature in some of their cams? Not sure why but I would much rather go with Dahua over Hikvision. I was hoping someone here who had a current firmware version of the camera could check.

hi all, I'm having an issue about 1-2 times/week where a recorded clip lets say at 7am will appear at 3am? Video recorded feed is from morning capture, yet onscreen time is 3am and registered in the recorded events in the 3am timestamp. It sometimes also shifts to a different day. So when you need to look back at something at a specific time and it's not there, it's almost impossible to find. I record on internal 64gb sd card and set to auto erase as needed. My temp solution is to format card and issue won't occur until card is full and starts auto deleting old recordings. Cam is setup to auto reboot weekly and currently on firmware version 2.460.0000.14.R, Build Date: 2017-07-20.
Anyone else experienced this?
thanks all

I would turn off the weekly auto reboot. That's a great time for Murphy to appear. Is the SD card fast enough, such as a Samsung Evo Plus?

I don't have the latest firmware on mine, or I would let you know.

Hey, first post....I have this camera running on outside soffit short cable run to POE, monitoring with BI ...running default settings (except IP address), and have the latest firmware installed..

When I first installed the camera it ran for days....but now it seems to randomly stop after 4 or 5 hours...I fix it by unplugging the cat6 cable at the POE switch, and camera starts up right away and runs fine for several hours...

How do I troubleshoot this issue? Thanks

The usual recommendation is to bring it inside for a bit. Hook it up to the PoE switch with a different store-bought cable and see how that goes. That helps rule out the long cable between your PoE switch and the soffit location as being the problem.

Thanks, that seem pretty obvious!!!! Trying it now.....

Hi, Bought a IPC-HDW5231R-Z from Andy. using 2017-09 firmware. No continuous recording. Since I am a noob, I decided to get the basics right and then explore NVR or BI. Currently using Dahua
web interface to manage & installed SD card inside the camre unit. Camera installed flush to soffit of garage and positioned to watch my front door/entrance. I set up camera to send me e-mail alerts
using IVS. Everything was working fine, I get alerts with person's image etc., until a week ago when Camera stopped suddenly. Disconnect and reconnect POE switch put it back on track.
Now, I thought that reset was the problem, as I get alerts after person passed the viewing angle with just my entrance/front door. I modified, added IVS rules (currently 6). Only yesterday
I noticed that if I walk quickly to front door and back, camera captures picture after I left the area. Most delivery is behind schedule US ( not in reality but Amazon's prime induced),
looks like delivery person is just running to door and running back to Van. Even then some are supposed to take picture and upload to Amazon. But those aren't captured as well. I tried to
reduce delay in IVS but 10 secods is the min in IVS. If someone walks to front door and rings bell and waits, those are captured. If I stand there for few seconds, that is captures too.
As I said, i am a noob. is IVS overkill for me? other simple feature to capture and send images? any help is greatly appreciated.
