Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

@nayr The specs for this camera say it can do a 97 degree horizontal field of view, but your first "zoomed out" demo video of your back yard looks more like 70-80 degrees, definitely not close to 100. Was it fully zoomed out for that video?

The price was good with all the coupons today (aliexpress makes the price a little cheaper through their mobile app, even) so I placed an order for a second IPC-HDW5231R-Z that will replace a hikvision 3MP that doesn't have a very good picture across 3/4 of its frame due to darkness.

For clarification purpose, can the zoom be controlled via blueiris?

Nayr does not use Blue Iris, but I should be able to try once mine arrives ... next week or week after probably.

BI already has a PTZ profile for "Dahua ipc-hfw2300r-z/2320R-ZS/81200E" which may work with this camera. If not, Ken may be willing to add a profile for this camera.

@istreich, i doubt zoom will work with blueIris.. it has no PTZ type commands avilable.. but it can zoom/focus with API commands so it might be done, but standard ONVIF PTZ commands wont do diddily squat.

@bp2008, its definitely wider than the 3.6mm 4300S I have back there but I dont think its a full 90 or else the swingset would of been completely in frame.. but its very close to it.. will double check, I may have zoomed it in a click or two to try to match the FOV of the 4300s.

@EMPIRETECANDY, License/Number plate reading definitely dont need the Starlight capabilities at night, usually the problem is the plate is too damn bright due to the reflectiveness of it... im using a 4MP Dahua w/60mm optics and reading plates just fine at night @ 180ft away.

its a cloudy night, I pointed it the sky turned and opened exposure to max.. you can see the whispy clouds and alot more stars than the eye can see.. also keep in mind I am in the middle of a large city so even viewing stars from this location with the neked eye is not easy; starlight bitches

more playing about, here is full color mode in total darkness with 1/3s exposure setting forced.. perfect for color scenery/weather; totally useless for security.

right now we will stop the selling for this model till the stock arrived next week, or else everyone asking for the camera, i will be so sad and sorry then.:(

@EMPIRETECANDY start reading the long license plate thread @ Dedicated License Plate Cam project the camera is a HF5421E

that sucks about the stock thing; Ive had those problems w/new Dahua's.. takes em a while to ramp up and get out; several months from announcement to wide availability.. you had it a bit sooner than even I had anticipated.. took me 5 months to get the SD29204S-GN after it appeared on there website; now everyone's selling em by the truck full and its already undergone a hardware revision.

i suppose they might let em out slowly at first to see if there are any problems that only production use will reveal.. thats how my company does it.
