Got my Dahua 4MP IPC-HDBW4421R-AS 2.8mm

Thanks for sharing your pics badmop. It does look like Dahua may have fallen behind a bit in low light quality but I will need more pics in different places to be sure.
 
I'm in doubt of buying the Hikvision 4MP Dome or Turret or the Dahua 4MP Dome or Turret. The prices for Dahua on alie are a bit better and therefor I am tending to pick the Dahua. Now the next question is to pick a dome or turret. I really like the 'looks' of the dome however it seems the turret has a better low light performance?

What would you guys recommend me? Hik or Dahua and Dome or Turret?
 
Given the IR is similar, does anyone see an advantage of getting the Turret version instead of the dome version? I'm wondering whether the Turret version is still a bit superior with the placement of the lens and IR. Can't seem to find information on the Turret on Dahua's site, want to confirm which junction box will work.
 
I've never owned a dome camera, but I have both the Hik DS-2CD2332-I and the Dahua IPC-HDW4421C. The only reason I would by a dome over the turret is if I needed local storage, audio, or some other feature that the turret was lacking.

The biggest complaint I have about the Dahua turret right now is about the quality of its housing/mount.
With the 2332, once you mount it, adjust it, and lock it down, it is not going to move or be removed without tools or an extraordinary amount of force. The Dahua mount is all plastic, and snaps together. Once it is mounted and adjusted I think it will stay in place, but the camera can easily be repositioned by hand, and it can physically be removed from its mount without tools.

The outer diameter of the Dahua base is 4.3", so I think it could also be mounted to one of these mounting blocks, but the screw holes for the Dahua mount are about 1.5" from center, so they would all fall inside the recessed section of the mounting block, whose recessed area is 4" in diameter.
 
Looks good! I've got some Dahua 4mp turrets coming, I chose the turrets in other locations because it seems like the IR will go further than the dome. I chose the dome for 1 location because the choice to add a MIC, which currently I have a MIC already in that location with my analog cameras.

I like the dome because you can't see which direction the camera is pointed at without a close inspection. Not that it matters, but helps keep dumb people away.
 
I've bought and just received one of these. I don't have POE installed yet, but it powers nicely off a 12v adaptor from an old netgear router.
The picture quality is pretty good from the main viewer in a browser on a PC, but there's a lot of colour banding when viewing from a generic android app using HTTP.

Does anyone have any tips on using this in Android, preferably also the ability to turn IR on and off, set WDR on off etc?
I've also attached this to Blue Iris and have found the inability to control the IR lights too.
Any help much appreciated, but the camera itself is looking great for the price.
 
I've noticed now that occasionally my Dahua is switching automatically from H264/H264H modes to MJPEG mode (main stream). Could possibly be related to being viewed via http protocol. Anyone with one of these got any ideas of what can be done to rectify this, since MJPEG seems to noticeably drop the video quality.

Just received my DH-IPC-HDBW4421R. Installed firmware is 2.400.0000.6.R. Using the Dahua ConfigTool I wanted to upgrade the firmware of the camera to the latest available version 2.400.0000.10.R which is available for download here. However, I receive an error "Send upgrade data error" upon sending the firmware to the camera. I have no idea what I am doing wrong as the steps are really simple. Select the .bin file and click upgrade from within the ConfigTool.
 
I'm having the same issue on the 4mp turret.... Same send upgrade data error. Anyone have an idea what's wrong?

I was hoping someone could help us out, but it seems no one has tried to upgrade their camera firmware yet?
 
It does the same here with the 4MP turret and dome. We may need to find the Chinese firmware.
 
I got my 4mp, 2.8mm turret today.

I can't seem to find a way to shutoff the IR (like I know you can do with Hikvision products)?

Am I missing it, or do I have to really perform HW surgery to remove the fairly bright red light coming out of it?

If you don't want to use the IR it's possible. It's not possible to turn off the red light separately from the IR though. To disable the IR go to the Night profile and set Day & Night to "Color" instead of "Auto".
Day & Night : "Black & White" = IR and red light On
Day & night: "Color" = IR and red light Off
If you use only one profile full-time you can set Day & Night to "Color" so that the IR is never used. If you want to use a night profile but without the IR set it to "Color" and eventually set Saturation to 0 to get a black & white picture.

One final question...

If I perform surgery (open it up), can I actually disable the red LED separately from the IR illuminators?

I'm thinking I'll turn off the IR through the software, but like being able to turn it on by switching profiles... But I'd prefer not to have that annoying LED on saying "HEY I'M WATCHING YOU"

No I meant the red and really noticeable spot within the IR illuminator circle.

i really think it's just the IR illuminator that has a strong visible spectrum component.

Kind of disappointing. There's absolutely no discretion with it - clearly visible at a good distance I think.

I was expecting SOME sort of glow, but not something that was bright enough for me to think it was like a deliberate visible spectrum LED.
 
That is how nearly all infrared LEDs on security cameras are. Slightly visible. The brighter the source, the more easily we see it. Longer wavelength LEDs exist which do not emit any visible (to humans) light, but they cost more and as I understand it they are much less effective.

bp2008 is absolutely right, the camera seemed to have a red light that could be seen in the dark but close inspection revealed that it's the IR itself.

It's my first buy in China, so I'm not expert on this firmware thing.
This camera from Sincerity Trade, like bp2008 said, shouldn't be not-chinese firmware? He said he didn't saw any chinese character in the first page.

What should it mean chinese firmware? The web interface is chinese but the vms prog can use it in english?
And an english firmware should have also the web interface in english?
Or the firmware could be chinese and upgradable only with chinese firmware versions, but the web interface could still be english?
I'm a bit confused...
