OK, but can you point to any 'how-to' instructions?
Hyperterminal? Not sure it exists any more.
hello,

need to bring your device at your local HIKVISION supplier.

There is a special device for doing this...

Thanks..

Use PuTTY instead, much more flexible.
It's a serial or telnet is SSH terminal program.
Hyperterminal is from way back.

Hi cliff, why is it that when ever I hit Ctrl + u to stop boot mode, the DVR displays HKVS $
That's normal, it's the bootloader prompt when the normal boot is interrupted.
I'm assuming you have hit Control-U on startup.

What do you want to do with the bootloader?

How can I connect dvr with Windows PC to flush or fix corrupt BIOS
I'd suggest contacting whomever you bought the DVR from first...

but if I followed the rest of this thread correctly, first you need a USB Serial to TTL adapter custom wired to a 4 pin header connector, that you plug into the DVR main board somewhere. this is getting pretty deep in geek land, and really even I would be pretty lost, I've done lots of this sorts of thing in the past with other hardware, but not with a HiKvision NVR, so I have no idea what special weirdness they bring to the table.

time to refresh the system, heh. get a new NVR, new cameras, its all pretty cheap now. new generation 1/1.8" cameras like the Dahua IPC-HDW5442TM have amazing low ight sensitivity.

Thanks for the advise. Just wanted to save money for now :)

And more knowledge to fix existing system rather than putting money into new.
