Hello everybody ,
Glad to find this forum ,
Newbie here hoping to get help and may be helpful to some in the future :)
I have set up a Hikvision system at my home,

- NVR : DS-7608NI-K2/8P (V3.4.95 build 170626)
- 3 HikVision turret cameras all connected via internal POE switch of this NVR (Plug'n play) and showing all ok no problem.
- VirtualHost enabled
- Can access NVR GUI from WAN outside of my LAN ( ports forwarded etc.) no problem so far.

NVR IS connected to my Router and is online communicating both ways (from WAN to NVR and from NVR to WAN)

Router Lan : 192.168.0.1
NVR Lan Address : 192.168.0.64 (255.255.255.0 , Gateway 192.168.0.1 , DNS 192.168.0.1 ) therefore NVR has access to WAN .

Cameras :
192.168.254.2 (255.255.255.0 , GW 192.168.254.1)
192.168.254.5 (255.255.255.0 ,GW 192.168.254.1)
192.168.254.7 (255.255.255.0 ,GW 192.168.254.1)

The question is HOW TO GET A CAMERA TO COMMUNICATE and ACCESS (WAN) INTERNET to function independent from NVR ,
eg :
- Updating internal clock via NTP.
- upload even pictures to an FTP account
- send emails
etc. etc.
the way NVR and its internal POE works seems to be isolating cameras acceess to and from outside wolrd ! (WAN)
I have tried setting up cameras Gateway and DNS in various combinations (using Router's GW dnd, using NVR's IP as GW etc.) no luck .

I even tried switching cameras from Plug'nPlay to manual and set the IP to my LAN range ( from 192.168.254. xxx to 192.168.0.xxx ) to see if I can see the cameras locally or get the cameras to have access to WWW.
instead NVR either reverted the setting or camera simply went offline from NVR GUI.

I appreciate if anyone has a solution to this.
my aim is to have cameras recording 24/7 on NVR (which they are ) AND get camera to upload//email events etc FROM within camera software to Internet interdependently of NVR.

Thanks in advance for reading and your time :)

Kind regards

Cameras sadly would need to be on there own Poe switch then the switch to the nvr
As the nvrs Poe will hide as you have found out
But as you have done and given the cameras there own IP address and manually entered them it’s the switch In between will allow them to be seen

Hi , thanks for your reply ,
Last bit got me a bit confused,
Want you're saying that it's impossible by using NVRs POE and I need to get a external POE switched to the nvr in order to get cameras access to WAN ?

Thanks

no not impossible if you know how to route the traffic, have a read what c hris 527 linked too
but the poe switch will allow you an easier option.

I know from the thread I linked you to you can have access to the rtsp stream through the VirtualHost that is in your NVR. I cannot tell you for sure about accessing the camera settings but if you read my solution I use with the dahua stuff it is possible that way. @alastairstevenson is quite the Hikvision guru and will chime here for sure at some point.

Yes, that's correct.
For a Hikvision NVR, 3 things needed to let PoE-connected cameras access the internet so they can send email, access ntp etc.

- Virtual Host enabled on the NVR.
- Camera default gateway=NVR PoE interface IP address. You have this already, you have them set to 192.168.254.1
- A static route added to your gateway/router to tell it how to direct the traffic.
For your network configuration this would be something like :
"For network 192.168.254/0 (subnet mask 255.255.255.0) use gateway 192.168.0.64 (the NVR LAN interface IP address)"
This method works OK - quite a few people are using it.
Good luck!

Thank you all for your valuable advise ,

I'm not alien with networking , however can you explain or link me to instructions to do such thing ?
Is it done via SSH into my NVR or my ISP's Router and how ?
Thanks a million.

The static route is added in the LAN gateway/router configuration.
The NVR needs to have Virtual Host enabled.
The PoE-connected cameras need to have their default gateway set to the IP address of the NVR PoE interface, usually 192.168.254.1

How it's done varies with the specific brand and model of the router.
This is as good a description of the required settings as any, assuming the NVR PoE interface IP address is 192.168.254.1 :
"For network 192.168.254/0 (subnet mask 255.255.255.0) use <the NVR LAN interface IP address> for the gateway"

Im trying to do the same, but I'm stuck!

I've done the suggested, but when I run the test I get an error along the lines of "no address found"...

What test?
Can you ping the cameras at their actual IP address from a PC on the LAN?
On the page where you set up the gateway, there is a test button. Also when sending a test email from the camera it fails...

My end goal is to have the camera upload pics on to a FTP location when an event occurs...

Try to ping the cameras from a PC on the LAN.
Also - the tracert command on the PC will show if the static route is working ok.

will try tonight. Does the static route need to be setup in order to "call out" from the camera?

Something is not right if your email test is failing.

Have you tried to see if the FTP function works on your internal network?

This is what I currently have setup and Intrusion detection and line crossing send pictures no problem.

Cameras are on 192.169.254.x
FTP is on 192.168.1.x

I can grab some screen shots when I'm home, later if you'd like?
