NEW 1080P Wifi Video Doorbell!

the problem is the IR refection off the wall...there isnt much you can do about it except mounting the bell on an angle...

Good point. I'm hoping they'll add a config option to disable the IR entirely. My Hik 2032 on the front of the garage has it disabled, and it's fine in the ambient light, though there's a bit more light out front.

Thanks everyone for chiming in. @Mike and @The_Penguin Looking forward to hearing about your experience with this camera.

I'm in the market for a doorbell camera myself but on the fence. I would like to see what you guys think, particularly with respect to night time video.

On a related note, I'm curious if the lens can be swapped out with something less wide angle. I'm not a fan of the fisheye view. (I've read other members swap out lens on their Hik turrets using replacement M12 lens)

Yeah I would have the same sentiments. 2 things immediately standout about the lens (not trying to be overly critical here, I acknowledge the price point), but 1. It suffers from a lot of barrel distortion - more noticeable in the video on Nelly's site than the examples above due to their restricted view and 2. I agree a narrower view, maybe 120 degrees would be nice, not least because it also increases the pixel density and thus quality of the picture.

Another small issue is the fact that it's wired as most European homes have UPVC doors these days and thus use wireless (battery powered) door bells. ie they don't have transformers or power supply wires fitted.

Other than that, doesn't look a bad little camera. Think the picture could be better, (as it could on almost every camera out there!) but in the context of the competition, looks good.

As for M12 lenses, if it could be changed, a lens such as that fitted to the Mobius 1 c2 camera could be a good option both for quality and price: Mobius C2 Wide Angle Replacement Lens

I would have thought this would make an excellent lens for just $10.95 if it was possible to fit one, as they're glass and quite good quality.

Is Nelly's planning to have any discount for Christmas or New Year on this doorbell camera?

any firmware updates coming to this. I know that yours is already onvif compatible out of the box. And you can get to motion sensing setup. But the picture quality seems really bad for a 2mp. Compared to my 4-5 year old 3mp hikvision cams.

No sales coming up anytime soon on the doorbells but we do plan on selling some on Amazon soon.

As far as the resolution: It has to do with the fisheye lens. its not as sharp as a "normal" camera due to the pixels per inch being much less due to the wider area of coverage the fisheye lens offers. I can see where a narrower lens would be optimal in some scenarios but I think there would be more scenarios where a fisheye lens would be more optimal for this type of camera.

Awesome review Penguin!

As I said above consider a Mobius C2 lens if you can make it fit . The HFOV is reported as 132 degrees for the Mobius lens, and should be more than enough for a decent view. I wouldn't describe it as optically perfect, but it's a good lens and in use in a lot of situations where wide angle is needed eg. It's widely deployed on RC Aircraft, as a Dashcam and in other uses. At $10.95 retail, the trade price for the lens is unlikely to be high, and it's coated glass not acryllic.

It's worth remembering a wider field of view isn't better if it's distorted. The aim of a doorbell cam isn't to see someone coming to the door, it's to record them and to that end it fails if they aren't easily recognisable.

I'd also say you have very little to lose by testing a Mobius C2 (beware there are other lenses - A, B, C (1) and D (some now discontinued))or other glass lower distortion lenses to see if you can improve the picture further.

However, nice product so far. Just would like to see a bit more image quality.

This is an image from a B Lens, (replaced by the C2). The B lens is only 116 HFOV, but as you can see, it still manages to capture most of the dashboard when mounted by the rear view mirror. The image quality is also quite good, free from obvious barrel distortion and pretty sharp - I rendered the image actually quite low quality (50%) so it's sharper on the original and the C2 is sharper still:

he cant change the lens, whatever hikvision provides is what his options are...they are not going to start opening units and making changes.
the purpose of a doorbell camera is for a general overview, its should never be the only camera at a front door...you need to stop confusing surveillance with movie production..

I appreciate door bell cameras should be for overview. However, the reality is for many consumer households or those who simply can't afford to buy a full CCTV system, these may be the primary (and only cam).

I take the point that if he isn't the manufacturer but distributor then he may be unable to alter them, unless he can get permission to sell his own customised version (and the alternative bits fit).

For someone without a system this is a poor choice... Ring or similar is a much better option....

Tested again today. Decided instead of permanent soldering I'd solder on some quick connects in case the wifi doorbell continues to malfunction. Good thing because the doorbell still doesn't work. I took a 4 minute video showing 3 loops and a couple attempts to reboot to no avail. I'll post the video link soon. At this point I'm trying to decide between replacement or refund.

You can see in the video below that the button blinks red for a hair over a minute, then the red light holds stead for a few seconds, door bell rings, light stays off completely for a few seconds, then goes back to flashing. Rinse and repeat. Did anyone else catch the little red dot just below the lens flash when the doorbell rings?

I tried to reboot as you can see it was non-responsive.

Hi Type2, that is definetely not working normal. It should reboot with an audible prompt. Go ahead and fill out a return sheet on our website under Warrant/Returns and we can either get it swapped out or refunded for you, your choice.

Whaoo... didn't expected to read issues in sort of announcement of their new product, but I would like to know why they referring Onvif compatible, but they are not a conformant product that determinate whether or not a product is officially ONVIF "

Does IpCamTalk is partner or affiliate?

I'm looking forward to learn more about it.

Hi Foreyk,

Im not sure I completely understand your questions. But yes these doorbells are Onvif Conformant.

Do you know the answers to these two questions?:

Does this also work with Hikvision NVRs (in Hikvision mode, not ONVIF) such as the DS7616NI-E2 so that the NVR will only record when there's motion and not all the time?
Can you setup the doorbell to only notify the app when you press the button, i.e. no alerts for motion?

Yeah you can add the doorbell to a Hikvision NVR via Hikvision Protocol using port 8000 no problem. Here is how you do it: H Series Doorbell Camera Quickstart Guide - Nelly's Security

Yeah, you can disable motion detection notifications in the app, but still receive a notification when the doorbell button is pushed. Here is how you do it:
Keep this enabled: https://www.nellyssecurity.com/quickstart/src/img/guides/doorbell/motion-2.jpg

But disable this: https://www.nellyssecurity.com/quickstart/src/img/guides/doorbell/motion-4.jpg
