Pandemic threat? Anyone else concerned?

Just defecate then take a shower right after; that’s a two in one

Not surprising to some

I just came back from Walmart here in Southern Jersey. There was not one roll of Toilet paper or energy drinks in the store.
Come on, what are people thinking that they are going to shit their self to death!
Geez...

Well, excessive use of energy drinks and frequent crapping go hand in hand so there is a grim logic to those things being out of stock together.

I just came back from Costco in Mount Laurel, NJ. No toilet paper, tissues, paper towels, wipes and some "normal" foods were completely gone as well. I think we're already prepared just from buying when things go on sale, IE buying ahead normally anyway. But holy mackerel it's insane out there. If you need TP check out Lowe's. I was there yesterday and they had lots although they were limiting it to 10 packs, 24 roll packs, per customer.

Text came in this morning from one of my doctors: "<Redacted> Medical Patients: If you believe you have been exposed to the Coronavirus and need to be tested, please go to the nearest <Redacted> Urgent Care. "

So I called this "urgent care provider" who -- after waiting an hour on hold -- I told that I've been home sick with flu-like symptoms for the past 3-days. They essentially told me that, in order to qualify for corona-virus testing, I would have had to have licked a toilet seat in Wuhan China within the past 14-days.

FuQ this.

Interesting side note on this: immediately after telling me that I was ineligible for coronavirus testing this professional urgent care facility said "but you can come in anyway if you want to."

So let me get this right...you can't test me...but you're suggesting that I come in anyway and mingle with a bunch of sick people who you've decided are eligible for Coronavirus testing?

I predict in a few days the TP shortage will stop because everybody will have bought their fill of it and the supply chain still seems to have plenty on the way.

Why not go to minute clinic to see if you have the flu?

I ask because flu you can do specific things about (antivirals), instead of toughing it out. Coronavirus diagnosis is helpful from a container perspective but not so much a treatment perspective.

Pence: "we're going to ask every American and legal resident returning to the United States to self-quarantine for 14 days:

How does that work, exactly? If one self-quarantines, what about the people that one lives with? Do they also need to self-quarantine even though they did not travel? If the self-quarantiner lives with others then are they not also at risk since they live with the individual who is at risk. And if everyone is quarantined, who shops? How the fuQ is this supposed to work anyway?

Non symptomatic transmission is real but relatively rare.

If a visibly healthy person returns to US, they should quarantine, limiting their direct exposure to others. Their housemates should social distance out of prudence but as long as the returnee shows no signs, the housemates are unlikely to be infectious. They do the shopping.

If someone in the house shows symptoms orbis diagnosed with it, the the whole.house needs to isolate and rely on food deliveries.

CDC says that one should stay in a room by themselves with door closed. One non-symptomatic person be assigned as care-giver. Use a dedicated bathroom, towels, utensils etc... Frequent had-washing and sanitation. Also, avoid your pets . I suspect the later is because their fur can transport the virus and if others also pet them (which they will) they will inadvertantly pick up the virus. I do not believe that there is any significant data which says that the family dog can get COVID-19 .

Maybe the US was the doing the world a favor by trying to formulate its own testing kits. On the hand however, its all up for debate. Frankly, I don't see the point of fueling the frenzy. The reaction to this pandemic is going to vary from individual to individual. This is not the first time and obviously will not be the last. This is wake up call for all nations to be more serious about their sovereignty. The practice put forward following the attacks of 9/11 was just Phase 1. We're in Phase 2, which will involve tighter screening on an individual's health, past travel history, and underlying conditions, so on. Blaming at this point is futile; we all know the pattern with the transmission of disease (or at least I hope we all do). Words are meaningless without action. This isn't the first time there has been talks pertaining to "wet" markets. This practice has to end. One case rippled into thousands. Epidemiologists already know how this virus originated and its enough to say enough is enough. What's still open to debate is where the virus originated from. Multiple factions are in denial-mode right now. Its quite alarming.

At least now this has called global attention and going forward it is important to be self-sufficient especially in the pursuit of manufacturing. Trade still needs to exist to maintain checks and balances. However, for essentials Its time to reconsider manufacturing practices and to put citizens first.
