Review-Dahua IPC-HDBW4231F-E2-M Dual Starlight Cam

Is anyone having issues viewing both live views in GDMSS? I can see the image from the second channel, but not the first... It simply never loads while all my other cameras and channel 2 load just fine.

Thoughts?

Also having issues with the settings. I can set everything via the NVR, however the image preview isn't present. I can also set the IVS rules, with a proper image preview, however the rules do not appear on any of the live views as they do on all my other cams.

I installed mine tonight. After mounting on the ceiling, direct to drywall, the temperature with the cover off was 105.5 degrees, and 98.7 degrees with it on.

The only oddity I noted was that both channels were stuck in Black & White, despite the fact there was sufficient light to switch to color. My other Annke 161DR (HikVision Cube Cam clone) was in color in the same room.

I had the default settings under profile It was staying in black and white mode with default settings of Mode: Auto, Sensitivity: Middle, and Delay: 6S. I played around, and changing the sensitivity to High, and then changing mode to color, then switching mode back to Auto and saving made it "stick" in color mode.

Next I tested the switching back and forth. When I turn off lights, it switches to Black & White mode, but when I turn lights back on, it does not switch to color. None of my other Dahuas have exhibited this behavior, but this is the first one indoors, except for the garage, and it is also my first dome camera. I am done testing for now, and we will see how it goes from here on the switching tomorrow. I am not hopeful that some miraculous change will occur, so if anyone has any guidance on settings, "I'm Listening".

Interesting. On mine, one channel really likes to stay in color mode long past the point where all of the other starlights, including this camera's other channel, have switched to black and white. If I manually switch the B&W, then back to auto, it'll stay B&W for the night, then the issue repeats the following night.

I use bp2008's sunrise sunset utility to designate color for day and B&W for night to get around this. Can also set different zoom and focus for night and day which is very useful...

Thank you for the info; that was my fallback plan.

This is possibly a firmware issue. Out of all the cams I have reviewed and the ones I own, I've not ran into this issue.
also make certain the photo sensor is not misaligned and has a good view of ambient light.

Update on my issues -

A simple camera reset seems to have solved all the viewing issues, however it's not allowing me to set IVS rules. Smart PSS will not grant me access to set the rules and setting them via the NVR doesn't seem to work either. I can set the rule but it never appears on the live feed or seems to trigger.

Odd camera overall - some settings stick and others don't. I'm experiencing the same with the daylight/night issue above too.

SmartPSS can be flaky, best to use either IE (not edge), Chrome with IE Tab extension installed, or Pale Moon 32bit browser.
You have do most IVS settings in the Cam's web Gui directly, then set them up in the NVR.
From a computer, You can also log into the NVR's web page, and get more setup options and the ability to connect directly to the cams.

@looney2ns, curious how you are using SmartPSS. I have a NVR5216 that I set the default group to the NVR IP and then all cameras will display on the 2x2 correctly, but on the 3x3, this camera won't show. I'm wondering if I should drop the NVR from default group and add each camera individually to PSS. (I'm running a POE switch).

Hello @looney2ns Question for you: Did you place the camera at the maximum tilt on your pictures on the opening post? 65 degree angle?

I don't typically use SmartPSS, I'm using Blue Iris.
I would suggest you use the NVR's web interface instead of SmartPSS.

Finally got my IPC-HDBW4231F-E2-M 2x2MP up and running. Funny thing, first channel is backwards. In blue Iris flip the channel left to right. When playing back a recording, have a split screen.

Any suggestions are appreciated
BTW, once I get the bugs out, seem like a nice unit for my garage.

hunh? please show some screen shots of the 'backwards' image and your config for both cams in BI

Here you go, my motorcycle is not ITACUD, it's a ducati

I just checked Empire Tech Aliexpress store and I don't see it for sale? Where do I buy one and what's the price?

Also, how does the quality compare to the HDW5231R-ZE? I want to buy one of those too but I didn't see any comparison talk. I'm doing a new three cam setup, two in front and one in back of house.
