Review-Dahua Starlight IPC-HDW5231R-ZE 800 meter capable ePOE

Thanks for answer, but Bonjour is disabled - still there.

I´ve 3 other cams from hikvision - the are not listed in network view, the only one i can see is the new dahua :(

Upgraded firmware to the new one, with reseted all settings - nothing changed :(

Autofocus is still not correct working
the camera lens seems have some defective, will get it back and replace a new one for you. Contact me, thanks.

I would love to get my hands on one of these to tear apart and see if the cause can be determined.
Dahua guys said the lens defective, this may happen, though the defective rate is very low now. 1 in 500pcs. Very good camera, IPC-HDW5231R-Z already ends.

Next time, when some guys in US have this problem, I will rerun one to you for checking. I think the main problem is the lens production defective.

@EMPIRETECANDY
They might have a focusing issue with the newer IPC-HDW5231R-ZE. Andy, can you check with Dahua tech to see if they can reproduce the (slightly) out-of-focus situation.
I did a manual focus adjustment with my IPC-HDW5231R-ZE to get an overall better focusing. My cam seems to be more near focus with most of the foreground are in-focus while the center and far back areas are lightly out-of-focus. Mine came with latest firmware May 2018.

The last few post's prior to yours was about this problem. Dahua has said it is defective lens, which I assume they outsource.

One of my four ZE’s had a strange zoom/focus issue. Wouldnt zoom at all and wasn’t able to focus.
Sent it back to Andy for repair.

In the last couple of days, I started to see IPC-HDW5231R-ZE loss signal issue. The screenshots attached are examples of the issue. I suspect a crash in the camera OS causing the cam to reboot, but I have no log or clear evidence of that. Note that this cam went off line two times in half an hour, one at 7:03AM and another at 7:33AM. This will greatly affect the reliability of a 24/7 surveillance system.
Note: If you know how to get to system log on that cam, let me know and I will look into it.

What firmware version are you on? Some have reported issue's such as this with the March Firmware.
If you are on the march firmware, then I'd try going back to the 11/17 firmware.
The log is in the Cams setup interface. Setup>Information>Log.

Thanks @looney2ns for location of the log.
Yes, firmware 2018-03-30. System Log indicates that interface eth0 was off-line but didn't tell why. For the second time the cam went off line at 7:33 AM, system log doesn't have any significant info, except for a last motion detection was at 7:31:55AM. The cam came back to Blue Iris UI after a good 5 minutes. When I have some time today, I'll revert firmware to see if that helps.

how do I post a video clip here in this thread?
I need you guys to visually check auto focus on a camera. I think the camera doesn't focus well. In some part of the auto-focusing process, at one point everything is in focus.However, the camera doesn't stop there but continues on to a slightly out-of-focus final.

the first image is after a reset on the Focus interface of the cam

the second image is a manual focus of 3 clicks on the plus side.

Through my beat up eyes, the second image looks more overall focused and sharper.
What do you think? Give me your good eye sight views :)

My eyes arent what they used to be, :( but first blush I think its more a matter of distance its focusing at... or object its focusing on...

The first picture looks to me like there is a slightly better focus near in, the rocks immediately below and the palm fronds just on the right edge..the 2nd image has slightly better focus farther out..

This may be a normal thing?

If it saying eth0 is offline, I suspect it the faulty Ethernet cable or the switch that the camera is plugged into is having issue or rebooting. I suspect that message in the log is saying that it couldn't detect the network anymore and the network is offline not the camera ethernet circuit.

@bigredfish
That's what I feel, too. The cam is near focused like I discussed before.
In a normal situation, all lenses has some degree of vignetting, which causes the image to look like more sharp in the center while slightly blurry in the surrounding areas. In this case, the center is not as sharp as the surrounding, and that is the issue of focusing.
What I did was a micro-adjustment for the focus of the lens to bring it from near focus to a more normal focusing to get an overall better image.
There are another cam IPC-HDW5231R-Z in the front with similar conditions, which I never had an issue with. I'm going to get a image of it for the sake of comparison.

@TechBill
That could be. However, I never had to do anything and the cam just got back online by itself. It's been working fine, until the next time. :)
