Review-Dahua Starlight IPC-HDW5231R-ZE 800 meter capable ePOE

Personally, I'd replace the cable to the camera or bring it in and connect with a patch cable just to be sure the cable is good. Sounds like connectivity problems to me, but you can't rule out the camera until you check/replace/test that cable.
I did replace the cable multiple times. I have checked other cameras I have and they all work with the cables I have tested with. Any body knows what the green light on the inside is for?

I can't say for certain with the 5231, but I just had to reboot a 2231 and the internal. green, LED came on for a second or two then went off during the reboot. If yours is constantly on, check to see if the reset button is stuck down in the activated position.

I gave up on it. The LED is not coming on at all. This camera never worked from the get go. I sent it back to Andy. When it worked that one night I was able to compare it to my DH-IPC-HDBW8281N-Z and it did real well. I will post a picture tonight.

Well, I guess duds can happen with anyone or anything. Murphy is a regular in my house. At least Andy will stand behind it for you.

I had the focus issue in upper right corner with this camera. The camera wasn't from Andy, but some other Aliexpress seller. I think it was dated may 2018.
First I checked the lens and everything was mounted good.
Then tried to loosen and tighten the lens screws but no help.
I looked carefully and noticed the bottom of the lens package what attach over sensor is bit curved. So when tighting the screws it might mount bit tilted. I folded some paper so it was around 0,15mm thick and placed under the unfocused corner and it went better. After some testing, I used 0,2mm thick plastic under the corner. Attached the before and after photos.

Hmm, recently I posted here about the camera not recording (or not recording on time) when using tripwire. (here)

I can understand the camera has difficulty 'seeing' the movement at night sometimes, but recently it happend during the day.
My father got the car out of the garage and went indoors. This triggered tripwire and is recorded.
Next video is my mum on the driveway moments after he left; the entire sequence of him getting in the car and driving away is not recorded.
This is getting frustrating; it just can't trust the camera on recording things anymore.

I think I'm going to contact @EMPIRETECANDY for a quote on a NVR4104-4KS2 or NVR4108-4KS2 and record 24/7. These 2 are the cheapest Dahua NVR's I believe and that's all I need.

This is why you always want to record 24/7 and only use the tripwires as a way to search your timeline.

NVR's are all on his Ali page, keep in mind that there is a possibility you have to pay tax to the netherlands..

These 2 lite NVR can't make IVS setting on the NVR, so have to make setting via webpage one by one. Ship to NL we can use free tax way, right now seems DHL very good. 7-10DAYS shipping.

Sorry in advance if it’s a dumb question : does this cam has an integrated microphone or it needs an external one to record audio too ?

The 5231 has a built-in mic. You may need to shut off "noise reduction" or "noise canceling", can't remember how it's worded on the config page, to get decent audio though.

Can this be done from the NVR or do I have to hook the cameras up to a computer?

Considering the noise coming from the mic, noise reduction is needed

I don't own an NVR so I can't tell you if it can be configured from there, but I would guess it could but that's only a guess. I configure all of my cameras from the web interface on a PC using Pale Moon, 32 bit, or Internet Exploder 11 if that helps.

To me, the way Dahua treats noise reduction is to limit gain/sensitivity just a "tad" too much. Trust me, you'll want to shut it off so you can actually hear things going on out there.

Hey guys, i am back.

This model currently no stock now, have to wait around 3-5 days for more , the Black IPC-HDW5231R-ZE camera will start selling next week. Get 100pcs black for testing.

Black and white
What about 'avocado green' or 'harvest gold' ?

I'm joking of course...they were the top color choices of appliances in the 70's in kitchens and laundry rooms across the U.S. of A.

Nice looking cams...love the black. :headbang:

From the point where you are taking the video with the camera to the end of your driveway, what is the approximate distance? Now that I have the mounting locations, I need to identify specific cameras based upon known distances and these are the kind of reviews that are absolutely perfect, WELL DONE Looney !
