I’ll probably resort to wrapping loads of insulation tape around the cable to increase its diameter, which should hopefully allow the gland to grab it.

I used flexible plastic conduit 1/2 inch

Interestingly - a development on this topic.
Check out this response from the Australian CCTV supplier that posted the sample video of the LED lights being event-triggered :
" Security Perth Pty Ltd 3 days ago Need to upgrade the firmware. " I've been waiting for that event trigger capability to turn on the LEDs for some months, and it's not yet in the IPC_G1_EN_STD_5.6.5_200316 firmware. What version of firmware were you using? Is it available for public download / where ? Many thanks.

And the firmware on their website :
I tried this and confirm that it does have the ability to event-trigger the LEDs, as shown in the accompanying PDF showing the configuration setup.

What's odd though is that the apparent firmware version of 5.6.2 is older than the EU portal 5.6.5 that does not have this feature.
Though it has a newer build date of 200407 as opposed to the build date of 200316 of the 5.6.5 version.

Very interested in this firmware Alastair, Followed the link and downloaded it so it's sat on my desktop now waiting to be applied.

Thought it was advisable to ask you first, have you tried it. Is it working and safe to use.

The anti-rollback covers major versions - this '5.6.2' version applied OK over the 5.6.5 version, these are treated as minor versions.

Good to know. Hopefully won't mess with my Hik-Connect settings as it took me awhile to figure out my HC url needed to be changed (I suppose due to EU firmware) which is why I wasn't receiving alerts though app.
 
I just tried it however it left the light on constant. Not sure if I have the min/max detection area settings wrong or what but it kept it on albeit a low level. I want it to light up only on event. Did yours only light up during detection?
 
I can't recall, does the Hik camera have "person detection" AI? Or still the regular motion detection? I get so many false positives because of nearby bushes or trees waving in the wind, or say a hanging light, that it renders the motion detection useless.

These are the 'Smart Events' available :

The ColorVu doesn't have "smart" capabilities like the 5 series or 7 series does aka person or vehicle detection

Does the 5442 (Dahua) have those capabilities? Or did you mean 5 series Hikvision?
 
I'm planning on moving away from my Hivksion NVR, wonder if Blue Iris has "software driven" AI capabilities that would work vs upgrading to the 5 series which I assume starts to become quite pricey.
