Review - TOP-201 Super Mini 720P HD IP-Cam (The Cheapest IP Cam So Far !!)

Hello all, I am a relative newbie to the board camera world. I have one of these boards with wifi, but the wifi seems to be plugged into a part of the board I cannot get the pin information on. There are 8 "pin" I/O section(proper term?). There is a 4 pin white female connector there. See pics.
Any help would be appreciated.

That's an IPC HI3518E 50H10PE-S board, the same as I have and shown here http://www.ipcamtalk.com/ip-cameras...-cam-cheapest-ip-cam-post25623.html#post25623. And in post http://www.ipcamtalk.com/ip-cameras...-cam-cheapest-ip-cam-post25247.html#post25247 there's an image with the pin out. Thanks for the question and your images as now I know what the pins labelled as USB were used for.

I am looking to upgrade to a 2mp(or more) board, any suggestions? Basically want the same single 38mm board much better resolution +audio+network. Is there a source of info like board camera building for dummies?

after all I figured it out. If anybody is interested how to show this cam directly on your Android, here are the settings for IPCamViewer :

1. A camera with a proper lens helps and I use a Fuji FinePix HS10. I chose it mainly for it's lens as I like to document all of my projects and wanted something that could take decent closeups of whatever down to just several inch's in size and the HS10 has several macro modes that allow it to focus down to 1cm. I also wanted something that could be used for more general photography and liked the fact that it had a 30X zoom lense as I didn't want to have to spend what a SLR with several different interchangable lenses would cost. Anyway, the important thing here is that you need something that can focus properly on what you want to photograph and, in case you're wondering, with the zoom lens of the HS10 images like you saw in post http://www.ipcamtalk.com/ip-cameras...-cam-cheapest-ip-cam-post25906.html#post25906 were taken from about 12 inch's.

2. Proper lighting is also important. I'm certainly no expert on this and am always looking for a better lighting solution, but, like I said above, I like to document all of my projects and take a lot of closeups and the last 2 photos on Workshop Renovations show the light box setup that I built and use. Like I mention on that page, such even lighting often produces images lacking in contrast, but the next item takes care of that.

3. Photoshop (or similar software) can work wonders. First, I like to start with a fairly high res image (mine from the HS10 are 3648 x 2736) so I don't have to worry about getting the composition perfect when taking them and can straighten and crop them as needed later and still be left with a fairly high res image. Contrast is then adjusted and in many cases I use the auto bracketing feature to take 2 additional images, one with slightly more exposure and another with slightly less, and then combine the 3 images for one with a greater dynamic range than normally possible.

Anyway, I hope this helps a bit. It's a pretty brief explaination, but it's a bit off topic and there's other forums where one can learn much more about all of this.
 
Quickly Rebooting Cycle

I've purchased 02 top-201 cameras. Since they arrived, I've connected the cameras in ZoneMinder (with my others D-link cams). I used the configurations from user harrijs in this post.

My question: the cameras (the both) work very well for 3 or 4 days and then they stop to work.

Trying to find the problem, I perceived that the orange led turns on and lights by 20 seconds then it turns off and the green led turns on to suddenly the orange led turns on (and the green led turns off). This happens in a infinite cycle.

I tryed to ping the cams and there is answers while the orange led is on.

I believe the cams are rebooting, but I don't understand why.

Had someone the same matter?

(PS: The cams are directly connected in a PC ATX +5V power supply and they have access to 10Amperes).

ooww :nightmare: try 12V / 200mA-2A max

Monitor the +12V with a voltmeter or even a LED (with an appropriate value of current limiting resistor of course) to insure the 12V is solid and not dropping for an instant. Some PC PSU will do that if the power supply doesn't have enough of a load on the 5V line (I believe it's the 5V, but could be wrong.)

If you really do have the cameras connected to a 5V power supply - as opposed to the 12V that's required - I'm amazing there is any sign of life from them.

Found that a while ago when I was looking for what to connect the green wire to... so a few of the reads are mine (but not all of them, lol)

But I'm glad this threat has woken up again, as I've succumbed to temptation and ordered some boards and cases :)

as they have the shorter threaded lens mounting more suited for pin hole lens application, but should be fine with standard lens as well

I have no idea at this time as to how I will achieve the board fixing (with or without ir cut filters) but will worry about that when they arrive and post the pictures.

As this 'project' will not require the use of IR then I may use a filter (removing the threaded section) just to act as spacer, but I'm sure all will be simple 'ish :rolleyes:

Will not be adding POE into these thin camera boxes as it will be easier just to add an in-line poe splitter / converter to 12v
