Keep in mind that another feature Chinese region cams have is ability to send video recording of your activities to Chinese government, unfortunately US region cams have a firmware bug which sends this information to North Korea instead.

So since 99% of cameras that are manufactured in the world are made in China then they all send signals home ? O.K then E.T go home. Also if it were even 1% true then let them see my life then maybe they will want to conform more. Did you know that even these posts are tracked by your government ? so what is difference your privacy was sold when Mr. Bush enacted his fears into legislation.

Yes the china version's base is made of plastic...the china version cannot do 60hz which can affect performance in certain lighting conditions. The china version cannot take firmware upgrades...so for example all those who have china versions can no longer use GMAIL because of a TLS requirement. Eventually new firmware will be issued for those with US region cameras.

I just received 4 of these from this seller (not from the original seller listed). No complaints so far. Quite slow to ship, over a week, but then it was next day to Europe (I bought 4 so got the DHL shipping) once they were out the door.

Mine have a metal base but a plastic ring/cover that goes over the base for aesthetics.

One more thing regarding Aliexpress camera: I have third camera (second chinese hacked hik.), FW 5.3.6. I have two problems:
-I'm unable to correctly set time, it is always one hour forward. My timezone is UTC+1, during DST UTC+2. I did almost everything, but this is terrible.
-I set H265 codec, everything is fine, but I cannot play stored video in VLC. Only in Hikvision webpage (remote access to NVR) and in VSplayer. I am also unable to convert that video with Hikvision's converter, which came with VSplayer.

I recently (Aug 2016) got a DS-2CD2335-I, also firmware V5.3.6. I have the same issue: recorded H265 file won't play back in VCL. Looking at video file codec info (through VCL Tool setting), it shows Codec:mpeg1/2, instead of H265.
So I think VLC chokes on the wrong codec information embedded into the video file= firmware bug.
I do not see your timezone issue however, mine works fine with NTP server enabled.

Main reason for me to buy this camera vs US version is that it has H265 codec, so this bug defeats the purpose of why I bought it.
Anyone else using their cams with H265 codec, possible work-arounds?

Just thought I'd pop back and show a photo of the mount I got for this camera. I went with the recommended Hik junction box (DS-1280ZJ-M). Have to say I'm very impressed with the box and everything fits nicely including the screws to hold the camera to the lid. It's not a cheap box, I paid around £22, but have to admit the does the job very well and looks the part.

I have 6mm DS-2CD2332-i - original updateable US version from Ali for about 90USD. For this price I would never think about the hacked versions.

Been looking for the same. Where did you purchase from?

Has anyone got the 12mm version of this camera? Here's the 6mm watching my front door at a distance of about 12ft. I don't think it's zoomed in enough really to catch faces.

That's why I have two cameras at my doors. One at about 4 foot high. Get great face shots.

I'll have a look for those. The 2335 comes in a 12mm but I just don't see any sellers on AliExpress with it

I think 2332/5 is not available with 8 or 12mm, only up to 6.

2332 is only available up to 6mm. So I expect chinese 2335 is the same.

It worked with my hikvision ds7608ni i2 but they tend to have poe failure and not really a stable item buy yet in my opinion. When it worked it was a great image and fun toy. Fun for under two months it worked although some have had better luck. I would suggest waiting for them to perfect the units after bad feedback. Seller sending me a new board so well see when I fix it but my time is valuable.
